Agilent Technologies (A) has been awarded a contract by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) to deploy its new Bulk Alarm Resolution Technology (BRT) at airport security checkpoints across the U.S.
The system will be installed at airports in cities hosting matches of the FIFA World Cup to improve screening efficiency for passengers and security operations.
The system is designed to screen larger quantities of liquids, powders, and solids commonly encountered in airport security screening operations.
Geoff Winkett, vice president and general manager of the Spectroscopy and Vacuum Division at Agilent Technologies, said the TSA’s deployment of its Bulk Alarm Resolution Technology marks a “significant milestone.”
He added that the company looks forward to integrating the next-generation system into screening operations to resolve alarms involving powders, liquids and other items more quickly and accurately.
Agilent’s BRT is an alarm-resolution device that uses Surface Offset Raman Spectroscopy (SORS) and advanced software to enhance screening. It allows accurate checks of liquids, gels, creams, solids and powders inside different types of containers at security checkpoints.
The 2026 edition of the FIFA World Cup will be held from June 11 to July 19. The tournament will be the largest edition to date. It will feature 48 teams who will compete in 104 matches.
In the United States, the matches will be hosted in 11 cities. Canada will host games in two cities while Mexico has matches scheduled in three cities.
Agilent Technologies stock is down 19% year-to-date. Trading at $110.86 at the time of writing, the stock sits just around 3.8% above its 52-week low of $107.07.
