Palantir Technologies Inc. (PLTR) co-founder and CEO Alex Karp reportedly revealed on Friday the most important thing that the Colorado-based company does, explaining how it combines artificial intelligence with defense to optimize performance on the battlefield.
In an interview with Axios, Karp stated that Palantir invested heavily in large language models and made its application more useful in the software.
“We’re growing the GDP of the U.S. We’re the part of the GDP of the AI economy where things are useful, either on the battlefield or commercially.”

He added that Palantir’s software is like a single pane of glass that connects AI, data, and analytics to help inform the user about everything they need to know about their assets on the battlefield.
“There’s the kind of sexy, violent part of war, which obviously in this case for the commander would basically mean is, you’ll be ahead of your adversary, you’ll be able to predict their actions. Honestly, the most important thing Palantir does is prevent war,” Karp said in the interview.
Palantir’s shares were down more than 1% in Friday’s pre-market trade. Retail sentiment on Stocktwits around the company trended in the ‘extremely bullish’ territory at the time of writing.

Giving an example of how Palantir’s software can help on the battlefield, Karp said a commander would now have visibility of all the assets they have at their disposal. This includes assets of foreign countries with which the commander is working, and which are only sharing a subset of the data.
During a complex operation, Karp says Palantir’s software can show the user where their plane should fly, or where the troops should and shouldn’t go.
“It can and soon will be able to pick up what kind of missiles you put on what kind of targets. So, do you put your really expensive missiles on your really expensive targets?” he explained.
Another feature of Palantir’s software is that it can help users orchestrate their supply chains. Karp explained that this includes several aspects of manufacturing, such as what is being built, how it is being done, where it will be built, and what companies are doing the same thing.
Karp added that the costs involved in this entire process are currently challenging to solve for. He said that Palantir’s software will be able to help in this regard. Apart from this, users will also be able to use the best “effectors” toward the most important targets and cheaper ones for the less important ones.
PLTR stock is up 131% year-to-date and 215% over the past 12 months.
