Shares of Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (AMD) slipped 0.5% in early premarket trading on Thursday but remained above the key $300 level, which was breached in the previous session amid a record high. The stock risks snapping two straight sessions of gains if losses carry over into regular trading on Thursday.
The Nvidia rival in the artificial intelligence server market is riding the AI optimism curve, boosted by strong demand and rising data center spending.
The semiconductor company declared record fourth-quarter 2025 results in February, posting a 34% increase in quarterly revenues and a 40% growth in earnings, bolstered by strong demand for its high-performance computing and AI products. For the full year, the company reported 32% revenue growth to $34.1 billion.
In the same month, AMD struck a major infrastructure and investment deal with Meta, potentially valued at over $100 billion, to deploy up to six gigawatts of its graphics processing units.
Meanwhile, on Wednesday, the company also unveiled the AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 processor, aimed to improve performance for developers, creators and gamers.
The company will post its first-quarter results in May, with analysts expecting a 38% increase in revenue to $9.87 billion and earnings of $1.28 per share.
Earlier this week, Stifel raised the price target on AMD to $320 from $280 and kept a ‘Buy’ rating on the shares. This represents an upside potential of about 5.5% from its last close.
Bernstein also raised the price target on AMD to $265 from $235 and maintained a ‘Market Perform’ rating on the shares, saying it adjusted estimates to reflect better PC assumptions and the new Meta deal.
Meanwhile, 36 of 49 analysts covering the company have a rating of ‘Buy’ or more on the shares. The 12-month average price target on AMD stock is $292.39, according to data from Koyfin, indicating a downside of 3.65% compared to last close.
On Stocktwits, retail sentiment around AMD stock remained in the ‘extremely bullish’ territory amid ‘extremely high’ message volumes.
One bullish user noted that new volume is adding up and forecast the price to surpass $400 soon.
AMD stock has risen more than 35% this year.
