Meryl Streep reprises her role as Miranda Priestly, editor-in-chief of Runway magazine, while Kenneth Branagh has joined the cast as her husband.
Filming for
Devil Wears Prada 2, the sequel to the beloved film
The Devil Wears Prada, has officially begun. It stars Hollywood actors Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, Anne Hathaway, and Stanley Tucci. Oscar winner Kenneth Branagh plays the role of Miranda Priestly's (Streep) husband, the editor-in-chief of Runway magazine.
Disney's 20th Century Studios rekindled enthusiasm across the world by confirming the long-rumoured sequel on Instagram and teasing fans with a picture of two devil-red stilettos.
“The Devil Wears Prada 2. Now in production,” Disney's
20th Century Studios captioned the Instagram post, along with Anne Hathaway and Stanley Tucci.
The original ensemble is reunited in the eagerly awaited sequel, wherein Streep plays the tough, no-nonsense editor of a luxury fashion magazine, Miranda Priestly. The story of Blunt and
Hathaway's adored characters from the previous movie will continue as they return to their roles.
Based on Lauren Weisberger's best-selling 2004 novel,
The Devil Wears Prada, the 2006 original received praise from critics and viewers alike for its incisive writing and stirring performances.
The Devil Wears Prada centres on
Hathaway's character, Andy Sachs, an aspiring writer who gets a job at a glitzy fashion magazine—a position that a million females "would kill" to have! However, she is at the mercy of her demanding chief editor.
Weisberger briefly served as Anna Wintour's assistant at Vogue. In particularly relevant news, Wintour revealed this week that she will be leaving her position as editor-in-chief of American Vogue after 37 years, per Variety.
Although the sequel's plot has not yet been confirmed, it is said to follow Miranda Priestly as she manages her career in the face of traditional magazine publishing's downfall. She battles her former secretary, played by Blunt, who is now a powerful executive for a luxury company that has promotional funds that Priestley sorely needs.
Hathaway's Andy Sachs leaves Runway at the end of the first movie and accepts a position at a newspaper, so it is unclear how she will play a role in the plot. The original film's director and writer, David Frankel and Aline Brosh McKenna, are returning for the follow-up. Karen Rosenfelt, the producer, is back as well.
The second instalment is expected to hit theatres on May 1, 2026, with filming having just begun. Both fans and industry observers have greeted the return of the original cast with enthusiasm.
