Tesla CEO Elon Musk on Tuesday committed to leading the electric vehicle giant for the next five years, amid doubts from certain quarters about his leadership of the company.

Musk made the announcement at the Qatar Economic Forum in Doha.

Addressing a question about leading Tesla, Musk said there is “no doubt about that at all,” according to Bloomberg.

Tesla’s shares were up more than 1% at the time of writing.

The Tesla CEO said he wants to remain in his position to maintain “sufficient voting control” to ensure activist investors do not vote him out.

“It’s not a money thing. It’s a reasonable control thing over the future of the company,” he said.

He also said that he takes the blowback for his political activities personally. Tesla has been hit with protests in the U.S. and Europe over Musk’s political activities.

“Well, it’s certainly fine to object to political things, but it’s not fine to resort to violence and hanging someone in effigy and death threats,” he said.

Musk, who has been serving as a key advisor to President Donald Trump, has been the focus of attention for his dual role as Tesla CEO and his efforts in leading the Trump administration’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

During Tesla’s first-quarter earnings call, Musk announced that he would spend “significantly” less time at DOGE starting in May.

The Tesla CEO said he would spend “a lot less” in the future, adding that he has “done enough.” Musk spent over $250 million to help President Trump’s election campaign.

When pressed for a reason, Musk said he currently does not see a reason to spend money on politics. But if the need arises in the future, he said he would spend again.

Tesla’s stock has declined 14.36% year-to-date.
