GE Aerospace (GE) on Wednesday said it has finalized a six-year manufacturing contract with Barnes Aerospace to produce components for the T700/CT7 family of engines at the latter’s facility in Newton Abbot, U.K.
The deal aims to bolster Britain’s supply chain and reflects alignment with the U.K. government’s Strategic Defense Review ambitions to reinforce national industrial resilience.
GE Aerospace stock traded 0.5% higher on Wednesday, after the morning bell. On Stocktwits, retail sentiment around the company jumped to ‘bullish’ from ‘neutral’ territory the previous day amid ‘low’ message volume levels.
The partnership further cements a 30-year history of collaboration between the two firms. As part of the deal, Barnes Aerospace will produce T700/CT7 airfoils, which are critical components that propel the engine’s performance and reliability.
“This represents the first package of work from GE Aerospace to Newton Abbot, and we see it as the start of a long-term relationship between one of our most important customers and an exceptional operating facility that already produces up to one million airfoil components per year,” said Barnes Aerospace CEO George Whittier.
Beyond strengthening defense logistics, the contract is expected to deliver economic benefits like job creation, the expansion of apprenticeship programs, and the introduction of advanced manufacturing capabilities in the region.
Barnes Aerospace is a supplier specializing in the full lifecycle of complex aero-engine components, from fans to exhausts. With a global network, it delivers component repair and overhaul (CRO) services for both commercial and military aircraft engines.
GE Aerospace stock has gained over 67% year-to-date and over 66% in the last 12 months.
