Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick on Thursday underscored the United States’ ongoing commitment to its trans-Atlantic economic partnership in a post on the social platform X.
Lutnick highlighted the perseverance of U.S.-EU cooperation amid recent headlines and political debates surrounding trade relations.
In a post on X, Lutnick reiterated that Washington intends to carry forward work on a comprehensive trade agreement with the European Union that could deepen economic ties and streamline cross-border commerce.

His comments came after a meeting with the European Commissioner for Trade, Maros Sefcovic, at the World Economic Forum in Davos, where policymakers and business leaders have gathered to discuss global economic and geopolitical issues.
On Wednesday, the European Union’s lawmakers said that the trade agreement with the U.S. has been put on hold following President Donald Trump’s remarks about Greenland.
Bernd Lange, head of the European Parliament’s International Trade Committee, said that the U.S. is weakening the reliability and consistency of its trade ties with the EU.
The EU’s decision to halt trade deal came after President Donald Trump said on Saturday that a 10% tariff will be imposed on several European nations from February 1, rising to 25% on June 1. He added that the tariffs will stay in effect until the U.S. finalizes a deal to buy Greenland.
However, on Wednesday, the U.S. President withdrew the tariffs on NATO allies after a meeting with Secretary General Mark Rutte. He added that the groundwork for a future agreement concerning Greenland has been finalized.
President Trump has been saying that the United States must have Greenland for its own security, and that if Washington stays out of the picture, Russia or China could gain influence there.
