LaGuardia Operations Disrupted

New York City’s LaGuardia Airport reopened on Monday afternoon, hours after a runway collision between an Air Canada’s passenger jet and an emergency vehicle that killed two pilots and injured dozens of other people, according to Wall Street journal. More than 500 flights scheduled to arrive and depart were reportedly canceled.

Jazz Aviation flight AC8646, operating on behalf of Air Canada, smashed into a Port Authority fire truck as soon as it entered the runway, the report said, citing a person familiar with the airport’s operations. The truck was responding to a separate incident, it added.

The Air Canada Express CRJ-900 plane was operated by its regional partner Jazz Aviation and it was carrying 72 passengers and four crew members and had departed from Montreal, as per a statement from Jazz Aviation.

Officials with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey confirmed that the pilot and the first officer were killed in this accident.

“Delta will automatically rebook affected customers to the next best itinerary, and customers can make further changes via the Delta app and delta.com. The hearts and thoughts of the entire Delta Air Lines family are with all those affected,” it added.
