Huang’s comments come amid reports that the U.S. has approved the sales of Nvidia’s H200 AI chips to Chinese companies.

Meanwhile, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said that the H200 approval reports are news to him. “I know there’s been a lot of back and forth ... and we’ll have to see on that. That’s a commerce department function,” he added during an interview with CNBC.

Nvidia shares were up more than 2% in Thursday’s pre-market trade.

Huang Says Trump Asked Him To Come

Huang told reporters ahead of the Trump-Xi meeting that the U.S. President asked him to come with him to China, amid confusion about the Nvidia CEO’s participation in the summit.

“This is an incredible opportunity for me to represent the United States of course, and to come support President Trump in one of the most important summits in human history,” Huang said on the sidelines of the summit on Thursday, according to a report by CNBC.

While some reports suggested that Huang had not been invited to the China trip, President Trump quashed the rumors in a post on Truth Social on Wednesday, stating that the Nvidia CEO was with him aboard Air Force One.

Several major U.S. company executives are present in President Trump’s delegation, including Tesla Inc. (TSLA) CEO Elon Musk, BlackRock Inc.’s (BLK) Larry Fink, and Boeing Co.’s (BA) Kelly Ortberg.

China Should Not Get Most Advanced Chips, Huang Says

During an interview at the Milken Institute Global Conference in Los Angeles earlier this month, Huang said China should not have access to the latest and greatest chips, according to a report by Nikkei Asia.

“We are huge supporters of the United States having the first, the most and the best,” Huang said.

However, he urged the U.S. to allow the country’s semiconductor companies to continue competing in the international market.
