Redwire Corp (RDW) on Tuesday announced that it has been awarded an eight-figure multi-year contract by an undisclosed NATO country to deliver its Penguin Mk3 uncrewed aerial system (UAS) to modernize the country’s UAS capabilities.

The company stated that the execution of this program and its long-term sustainment will be supported by its European operations to ensure operational readiness and enduring customer support.

“Penguin Mk3 builds on years of operational, combat experience to deliver a scalable, adaptable solution aligned with the demands of modern defense environments,” said Steve Adlich, President at Redwire Defense Tech.

Redwire noted that its Penguin Mk3 has the foundation to address rising mission requirements across NATO and its allied forces. The Mk3 model contains enhanced modularity, mission adaptability, and growth capacity to support a broad range of operational needs.

RDW Penguin UAS Credentials

The space infrastructure technology major stated that it has a proven track record of supporting challenging environments and was included by name in the United States Security Assistance Packages for Ukraine in July 2023 and December 2024. As of today, the company has delivered over 250 combat-proven Penguin aircraft directly to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

In March, Edge Autonomy, a unit of Redwire, delivered additional Penguin UAS to the Ukrainian forces. The delivery had followed its contract that started after Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. The company stated that these drones are deployed for combat-tested missions, including surveillance, reconnaissance, and target acquisition, and that Edge Autonomy develops them alongside warfighters to address evolving mission requirements.

The aerospace and defense major has also participated in a Special Operations Forces (SOF) conference, to take place from May 18 to May 21. The event has been known to share ideas, discuss future challenges, and review new technologies within the SOF.
