Shares of Redwire Corporation (RDW), which crashed nearly 30% over four sessions, jumped 4% in pre-market trading on Thursday, as investors cheered the company’s latest mission – to grow strawberries in space.

Redwire landed a contract from Luxembourg-based biotech firm Astrobiome Space to grow strawberries aboard the International Space Station (ISS), marking the inaugural mission of its commercial greenhouse system.

RDW’s Mission To Bridge Quality Gap Between Earth And Space-Grown Crops

Under the agreement, Astrobiome Space will use its proprietary soil-enhancement technology to grow wild strawberries in orbit and evaluate the product’s performance in a microgravity environment. The experiment aims to reduce the quality difference between space-grown and Earth-grown crops.

Astrobiome Space plans to begin ground-based testing in June before deploying the greenhouse to the ISS.

“The first strawberry grown in space will be tiny, but its flavor will carry the whole story of the forest and the turning seasons,” said Vera Mulyani, founder and CEO of Astrobiome Space.

Redwire has been steadily adding new contracts, helping drive its backlog to a record $498.1 million as of March 31, 2026.

Jefferies Says RDW’s Rally Likely Over In Near Term

Earlier this week, Jefferies downgraded Redwire to ‘Hold’ from ‘Buy’ despite raising its price target to $24 from $13, according to The Fly. Jefferies said much of the optimism surrounding the space sector is already reflected in the share price with “near-term upside” from current levels.

RDW shares have nearly doubled over the past month, riding on the bullish momentum surrounding SpaceX’s impending IPO.

RDW Bulls See $100 By Year-End

Retail sentiment on Stocktwits changed to ‘bullish’ from ‘extremely bullish,’ while message volumes remained ‘high.’

One user called the contract a “big win” for the company.

Another user expects the stock to climb to $100 by the end of 2026, which would represent nearly five times its present value.

RDW shares have surged around 166% so far this year.
