IMAX Corporation (IMAX) has announced an expansion of its partnership with movie theater chain Regal Cinemas to introduce four new IMAX with Laser locations in major U.S. metropolitan areas.
The initiative aims to enhance the cinematic experience for moviegoers by incorporating laser projection technology into its theaters.
IMAX’s latest theater additions will launch in prominent, high-traffic areas, such as the L.A. LIVE complex in downtown Los Angeles, Regal Greenway Grand Palace in Houston, Virginia Gateway in Gainesville, and Regal Sherman Oaks in Los Angeles.
Each location is slated to deliver an upgraded cinematic experience with 70mm projection systems and 80-foot screens ranked among the largest in their metropolitan regions.
“Passionate moviegoing audiences in major metropolitan areas fuel our growth, and we’re excited to expand our partnership with Regal Cineworld and give our fans even more ways to experience it in IMAX,” said IMAX CEO Rich Gelfond.
IMAX 70mm film offers the highest possible resolution in cinema, captured exclusively using IMAX film cameras to achieve up to 18K resolution in each frame.
Films shot in this specialized format are projected through IMAX 70mm film projectors, a unique system that can only be found in 30 locations worldwide.
Recent titles filmed with IMAX cameras and showcased in 70mm include “Oppenheimer,” “Sinners,” and the 10th-anniversary re-release of “Interstellar.”
The new IMAX locations will feature IMAX with Laser, the latest in entertainment technology, offering superior image quality, precise audio, and brighter, higher-resolution visuals.
The deal also includes plans to renew 33 current Regal IMAX venues nationwide, along with completing ten IMAX with Laser system upgrades previously scheduled for 2025.
On Stocktwits, retail sentiment around IMAX stayed in ‘bearish’ territory.
