Note that abandoning the benchmark TC/RC system could significantly disrupt traders&#39; hedging strategies, particularly for those intermediating between miners and refiners (smelters). 
 
Bottom line here is that this move is likely to contribute to upward pressure on spot and physical copper prices, amplifying existing supply-side forces.  
 
By opting for individual deals, Freeport could effectively raise TC/RCs in negotiations, increasing costs for buyers and potentially leading to smelter curtailments if margins remain unviable ... tightening refined copper availability.
