Zcash is a privacy-focused cryptocurrency that uses trustless zero-knowledge proofs to enable fully encrypted transactions while maintaining blockchain transparency and security. It was the first cryptocurrency to implement zero-knowledge encryption for private peer-to-peer payments, addressing the fundamental privacy gap in traditional cryptocurrencies that expose transaction details publicly.   With a fixed supply of 21 million ZEC and a halving schedule similar to Bitcoin, Zcash allows users to prove transactions are valid without revealing sensitive information like wallet balances, transaction amounts, or participant identities, making it suitable for everyday payments, long-term savings, and cross-border money transfers where financial confidentiality matters.  The protocol operates on its own blockchain currently using Proof-of-Work consensus, though it's evolving toward Proof-of-Stake through the planned "Crosslink" upgrade to enhance security, scalability, and energy efficiency. Zcash employs trustless zero-knowledge proofs (Halo) within its Orchard shielded pool to verify transactions without revealing sender, receiver, or amount information.   Users can choose between transparent public transactions and shielded private transactions through Unified Addresses, which work with both types. The network is faster and cheaper than Bitcoin, with new blocks mined every 75 seconds and transaction fees typically just a fraction of a cent. Privacy adoption has surged in 2025, with over 30% of total ZEC supply now held in fully shielded pools.  Zcash was created by a group of scientists in 2013 who initially proposed Zerocoin as a privacy extension to Bitcoin before building a standalone protocol. The ecosystem operates with a self-funded development model where block rewards support independent teams through the Zcash Community Grants Committee and a new Coinholder-Controlled Fund.

The platform hosts over $14 billion in DeFi applications with hundreds of thousands of active users across financial protocols, NFT marketplaces, and gaming platforms. Its transition to Proof of Stake in September 2022 reduced energy consumption by over 99%, addressing environmental concerns while strengthening network security.  The network operates through thousands of independent validator nodes that process transactions and execute smart contracts on the Ethereum Virtual Machine. Smart contracts are self-executing programs written in Solidity that automatically carry out agreements when conditions are met, eliminating intermediaries like banks or brokers.   Validators stake ETH as collateral to propose and validate blocks, earning rewards for honest participation while facing penalties for malicious behavior. The EIP-1559 upgrade introduced a dynamic base fee mechanism that burns ETH with each transaction, creating deflationary pressure during high network activity when more ETH is burned than issued to validators.  Vitalik Buterin proposed Ethereum in 2013, but seven co-founders helped build it, including Gavin Wood who created Solidity and the EVM technical specification, and Joseph Lubin who founded ConsenSys. The project launched in July 2015 after raising over $18 million through crowdfunding, quickly becoming the largest blockchain developer community. Major milestones include the 2020 Beacon Chain launch, the 2021 London hard fork implementing fee burning, and the 2022 Merge to Proof of Stake.   Ether (ETH) serves multiple functions: paying transaction fees (gas), staking to secure the network and earn 3-5% annual yields, serving as collateral in DeFi protocols, and purchasing NFTs and digital assets. The asset is increasingly adopted by traditional institutions, with publicly traded companies adding ETH to corporate treasuries to generate staking yields while maintaining blockchain exposure, and in 2024, the SEC approved spot Ethereum ETFs, allowing traditional investors to gain exposure through conventional brokerage accounts.  Ethereum's roadmap focuses on dramatically increasing transaction capacity to over 100,000 per second, reducing confirmation times, and enhancing decentralization while maintaining security against future threats like quantum computing.

India's Adani Ports sees slower core earnings growth for fiscal 2027

India’s Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone on Thursday flagged slower core earnings growth in fiscal 2027 due to U.S. tariffs and the Iran war, even as the country’s top private port operator posted a 20% rise in quarterly earnings on the same basis. Shares closed 0.9% higher on Thursday, after falling 3.9% to 1,596.80 rupees earlier in the day. Global trade flows have been significantly hit due to the U.S.-Iran conflict which began in late February and has led to the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, a key waterway for world oil trade. The company’s core earnings for 2026 rose 20% to $2.41 billion from a year ago, while revenue climbed 25% to $4.08 billion. It said it expects core earnings growth of 9% to 14% in fiscal 2027, slower than the 20% growth recorded in 2026, and forecasts revenue growth of 11% to 16%. India’s Adani Ports raises annual earnings forecast, expects Australia terminal boost “Adani Ports’ fiscal 2026 volume and revenue growth was boosted by the acquisition of the NQXT terminal, which added about 35 million tons or roughly 8% to volumes and inflated growth to around 25%,” says Deven Choksey, managing director at DRChoksey FinServ.

Indian shares log best month in over two years as earnings, valuations temper oil-driven risks

Indian shares partly recovered from March’s steep selloff with gains in April, but Thursday’s decline highlighted lingering fragility as surging oil prices and a weakening rupee hurt sentiment. The Nifty 50 fell 0.74% to 23,997.55 and the BSE Sensex shed 0.75% to 76,913.50, while the rupee hit a record low after a jump in crude prices and a hawkish U.S. Federal Reserve.
