The e-commerce company reportedly said in an internal letter that the latest generation of AI has been the most transformative technology and is enabling companies to innovate much faster.However, CEO Jassy had told analysts during the company’s third-quarter earnings call that the reductions were not financially-driven or even AI-driven.Meanwhile, Citigroup is also continuing its <a href="https://stocktwits.com/news-articles/markets/equity/citi-will-cut-more-jobs-in-2026-as-part-of-ceo-reorganization-plan/cmyRW69R4gC">job cuts</a> in 2026, as part of its CEO’s reorganization efforts, which the company said aligns with current business needs, and also reflects the “efficiencies we have gained through technology and progress against our transformation work,” the company said.&nbsp;Meanwhile, U.S. equities closed higher on Friday. The <a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/SPY">SPDR S&amp;P 500 ETF</a> (SPY), which tracks the S&amp;P 500 index, closed up around 0.04%, while the <a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/AQQQ">Invesco QQQ Trust ETF</a> (QQQ) ended the day 0.32% higher. Interestingly, OpenAI rival Perplexity recently reached a $1.5 billion&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.nytimes.com/2025/09/05/technology/anthropic-settlement-copyright-ai.html">settlement</a> with a class of authors who made similar claims against it. However, even as lawsuits mount, OpenAI has yet to offer a settlement or bring a significant case to a definitive close.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Significant Cases</h2>The most significant case against OpenAI is one brought by The New York Times in late 2023. It also names Microsoft, an OpenAI investor, as a defendant. In March this year, a New York judge allowed the core copyright claims to proceed. The widely watched case could serve as a benchmark for an evolving AI copyright landscape.&nbsp;More recently, a separate kind of development jolted the AI industry. A U.S. teenager took his life in April after allegedly discussing the plan at length with ChatGPT; his parents subsequently&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/news-articles/markets/equity/california-couple-sues-open-ai-ceo-sam-altman-over-chat-gpt-allegedly-abetting-teenage-son-s-suicide/chsxtroRdkm">sued</a> OpenAI and CEO Sam Altman for negligence and wrongful death. The Adam Raine case revived the debate over another, but more critical, topic: AI safety. The case is ongoing.The legal issues come as OpenAI’s massive expansion draws scrutiny. Weekly interactions with ChatGPT Enterprise have increased nearly eightfold over the past year, and the average user is sending about 30% more messages than before.The report said companies are shifting from experimenting with AI to using it inside daily workflows.
