Authorities say the OneCoin Ponzi scheme duped investors of more than $4 billion worldwide, involving victims in the U.S., U.K., Germany, and China. A part of the seized money, which presently exceeds $40 million, will be made available to qualified claimants who file applications by June 30.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Rise Of The ‘Cryptoqueen’ And OneCoin’s Collapse</h2>According to a 2019 BBC&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.bbc.com/news/stories-50435014">report</a>, Ignatova branded herself the “Cryptoqueen” and launched OneCoin in 2014. She promoted it as a direct rival to Bitcoin (BTC), which sparked a frenzy in the market at the time.&nbsp;The report explained that she described the token as a “Bitcoin killer,” claiming it would become the world’s leading cryptocurrency, beating Bitcoin, which was valued at over $500 per coin at the time. However, investigators later found that OneCoin had no underlying blockchain and operated entirely as a global Ponzi scheme. Docuseries “Fugitive: The Mystery of the Cryptoqueen,” was also created on Ignatova.<a href="https://stocktwits.com/coins/bitcoin">Bitcoin’s (BTC) price</a> was trading at $75,631 on Tuesday morning, gaining over 5% over the past 24 hours. On Stocktwits, retail sentiment around BTC moved to 'bullish' from the ‘neutral’ zone, while chatter stayed at ‘high’ levels over the past day.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Charges, Disappearance, And Ongoing Manhunt</h2>US prosecutors&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.fbi.gov/wanted/topten/ruja-ignatova/@@download.pdf">charged</a> Ignatova in October 2017 with wire fraud, securities fraud, and money laundering. Ignatova, who had worked as a consultant at an MBB firm before founding OneCoin, disappeared only 2 weeks later. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) placed her on its “Ten Most Wanted Fugitives” list, while offering a&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://2021-2025.state.gov/reward-for-information-german-national-ruja-ignatova/">reward</a> of up to $5 million for any information on her.The DOJ said on Monday that victims who purchased OneCoin during the scheme’s operation between 2014 and 2019 could now file claims as part of the remission process.OneCoin co-founder Karl Sebastian Greenwood&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.justice.gov/usao-sdny/pr/co-founder-multi-billion-dollar-cryptocurrency-pyramid-scheme-onecoin-pleads-guilty">pleaded guilty</a> in December 2022 and was sentenced to 20 years in prison and ordered to pay $300 million in penalties. However, ‘Cryptoqueen’ Ruja Ignatova is yet to be found.&nbsp;<h2 class="st-heading-2">One Of The Largest Crypto Fraud Cases</h2>The OneCoin case remains one of the “largest global fraud schemes” linked to cryptocurrency. Similar cases emerged in recent years, including&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.justice.gov/archives/opa/pr/bitconnect-founder-indicted-global-24-billion-cryptocurrency-scheme">BitConnect</a>, a crypto lending platform that collapsed in 2018 and was later found to have operated as a Ponzi scheme. "Bitcoin has started to separate from its software correlation," he noted, as conventional technology is under increasing threat from fast improvements in AI.<h2 class="st-heading-2">AI Disruption Reshapes The Investment Landscape</h2>Visser contended that AI is no longer merely a productivity tale, but a disruptive force that affects labor, software economics, and business pricing power. As AI agents become more capable of doing sophisticated jobs ranging from coding to negotiating, the value of conventional software enterprises may suffer.However, Bitcoin stands out. Unlike other IT businesses, it is not dependent on sales, margins, or corporate demand. Instead, its value is predicated on fixed supply and digital scarcity, making it, in Visser's opinion, one of the few "code-based" assets that might gain rather than be disrupted by AI.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Macro Setup Turning Favorable</h2>The second pillar of Visser's theory is macroeconomics. He mentioned a possible move toward negative real interest rates, in which inflation exceeds short-term yields, a circumstance previously linked to positive Bitcoin performance. “The strongest regime for Bitcoin is when CPI is above short-term yields, and the Fed is on hold or easing,” Visser noted, adding that such conditions have previously driven outsized returns.He also mentioned a shifting inflation dynamic, driven not by short-term shocks, but by structural demand for physical resources such as energy, semiconductors, and infrastructure required to enable AI development.&nbsp;<h2 class="st-heading-2">The Rise Of Scarcity Economy</h2>Visser also brought up&nbsp;concerns&nbsp;about how well existing financial institutions would hold up in the age of powerful AI, especially when it comes to cybersecurity and systemic weaknesses. He said that Bitcoin's attractiveness as a decentralized option for a low-trust environment might grow as centralized solutions become more risky.Visser remarked that the emergence of AI agents taking part in economic activities might be a major long-term driver. These systems may choose assets with high liquidity, clear regulations, and acceptability throughout the world since they can trade and distribute capital on their own. He said it included a mechanism called a “tapleaf” built specifically to allow future compatibility with post-quantum cryptography.&nbsp;Simply put, even if quantum computers eventually break Bitcoin's current signature system, there is already a built-in pathway in the protocol to switch to a quantum-safe alternative without losing access to funds.To substantiate his claim, Back cited an&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://eprint.iacr.org/2025/1307">academic proof</a> by Tim Ruffing, a cryptographer and blockchain researcher, which mathematically demonstrated that Taproot's commitment scheme is post-quantum secure. Bloomberg Analyst Bets Big On Bitcoin ETFs, Says It Is 'Hot Sauce' In A Portfolio

Bloomberg analyst James Seyffart said that many investors saw Bitcoin as a hedge, while gold remained under-allocated, suggesting room for both assets to grow.

He added that Bitcoin (BTC) was "very powerful" and that more people were becoming interested in using crypto to pay for goods and services.&nbsp;Trump said he had signed the GENIUS Act into law, which he called a framework for dollar-backed stablecoins. He said that the approach would help new ideas while warning against too many rules and regulations.&nbsp;The law, passed last year in July, established a regulatory framework for stablecoins."We don't want any rules or restrictions that don't make sense."
