However, this time around, it’s possible that global wealth has grown faster than gold supply, pushing demand beyond what miners can easily produce.Unlike gold, Bitcoin can’t increase supply when prices rise. Its inflation rate is built into the code and gets smaller over time. That scarcity, plus its low correlation with stocks, bonds, and even gold itself, makes Bitcoin a powerful tool for diversification over the long run, Wood noted. Despite short-term weakness, Bitcoin has still risen roughly 360% since late 2022.Wood noted that while gold may be benefiting from near-term demand dynamics, Bitcoin is “playing the long game”. Since 2020, Bitcoin has shown very low correlation with stocks, bonds, gold, and commodities. This makes it a potential diversifier in institutional portfolios.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Different Roles In Portfolios</h2>Wood suggested that gold’s recent price action likely reflects its use as a hedge amid geopolitical uncertainty and tariff hearings around the corner. Cathie Wood Says Gold Is Winning Now, But Bitcoin Is ‘Playing The Long Game’

In a note to investors, ARK Invest CEO Cathie Wood said the recent divergence between gold and Bitcoin reflects different market roles and timing, not direct competition.

ARKW dipped more than 14% over the last three months of 2025, ARKK fell more than 10%, and ARKF was the worst hit – down over 16%.&nbsp;&nbsp;The report said the underperformance across the three ETFs occurred during a period of heightened volatility. October saw one of the&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/news-articles/markets/cryptocurrency/crypto-markets-hit-by-500-million-liquidation-after-trumps-tariff-threat-on-china/ch6Oc3OR3j2">worst cryptocurrency crashes</a>, with over $19 billion liquidated in a single day. It also noted that trading activity declined thereafter on centralized crypto exchanges such as Coinbase.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Crypto Stocks Weigh On ARK Portfolio</h2>COIN’s stock was the single largest detractor in ARKF, falling 2.31% over the quarter. BMNR’s stock declined 1.48%, while shares of Robinhood slid 1.26%. All three ranked among the bottom five contributors to fund performance during the period.The same was reflected in the other two portfolios. In ARKK, Coinbase and Bitmine also ranked among the five largest detractors, with COIN down 2.07% and BMNR down 1.45% during the quarter. Both stocks again appeared among the weakest performers in ARKW, where Coinbase declined 1.82% and Bitmine fell 1.47%.<h2 class="st-heading-2">How Are COIN, BMNR &amp; HOOD Stocks Doing So Far This Year?</h2><a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/COIN/">COIN’s stock</a> dipped 1.28% in pre-market trade on Thursday, with retail sentiment on Stocktwits improving to ‘bullish’ from ‘neutral’ over the past day. So far this year, the stock is up 10%, according to TradingView.In comparison,&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/BMNR">BMNR’s stock</a> has gained more than 16% in 2026. The shares edged 0.49% higher in pre-market trade. "He wants to have another one or two productive years, and I think he sees crypto as a path to the future."She added that his family’s stake in the crypto industry’s success and that the "crypto community" was "part of the reason he won the presidency" are also likely to impact the Trump administration’s push to stock up on Bitcoin.&nbsp;<h2 class="st-heading-2">Trump’s Bitcoin Reserve Still Limited To Seized Assets</h2>Wood noted that while the Trump administration established a strategic Bitcoin reserve, it has so far relied only on assets obtained through government seizures rather than market purchases."It seems as though there has been reticence about actually buying Bitcoin for the strategy reserve. So far, it's confiscated [Bitcoin]," Wood said, referring to the assets seized by government forfeiture that Trump pledged not to sell.&nbsp;<h2 class="st-heading-2">Crypto-Friendly Trump Administration</h2>Last year, Trump&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/news-articles/markets/equity/bitcoin-tumbles-as-trump-bitcoin-strategic-reserve-plan-fails-to-impress/chepruYRbGI">signed</a> an executive order directing the federal government to treat seized Bitcoin as a strategic national asset. Earnings per share came in at $0.64, beating the consensus forecast of $0.20.Despite the stronger results, the stock slid on&nbsp;Wednesday&nbsp;on concerns that a possible U.S. interest-rate cut next month could weigh on returns from the short-term assets backing USDC reserves. Lower yields could reduce income generated from those holdings, a key driver of Circle’s earnings.Deutsche Bank lowered its price target to $90 from $147 and kept a ‘Hold’ rating on the shares. While it viewed Circle’s Q3 print as being “very solid overall”, Deutsche Bank lowered its estimates to reflect more conservative USDC growth.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Ark Invest Adds To Position</h2>Ark Invest purchased a total of 353,328 Circle shares across three of its exchange-traded funds – Innovation (ARKK), Next Generation Internet (ARKW), and Fintech Innovation (ARKF).&nbsp;Ark’s buying came as Circle hit its lowest level since June 5 on Wednesday at $86.30, marking its steepest single-day drop in over four months. Members and prospective customers can join a waitlist to receive priority access to SoFi Crypto.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Not The First Time</h2>In 2020, SoFi allowed its customers to buy and sell cryptocurrencies through its brokerage app. However, the service was shut down two years ago, and the company stated that it was reevaluating its cryptocurrency strategy and product offerings.&nbsp;SoFi may be the first nationally chartered bank to offer crypto trading fully integrated with banking and other financial services – but other U.S. banks are also on the same track. Since the passage of the GENIUS Act earlier this year, major banks such as Citi, JPMorgan, and others have begun expanding their offerings. SoFi Becomes First National Bank To Let Retail Customers Trade Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana

SoFi described the launch as the first step in a broader strategy to integrate blockchain innovation across its ecosystem.

Shares of Klarna Group Plc. (KLAR) fell below their initial public offering (IPO) price of $40 for the first time on Friday.<a href="http://stocktwits.com/symbol/KLAR">Klarna’s stock</a> fell more than 5% by midday trade on Friday, trading at around $39.37 at the time of writing, rebounding from a low of $38.31. The shares had rallied as high as $57 on the day of their debut, following the company's $1.37 billion raise&nbsp;through the IPO.&nbsp;The drop comes amid a broader decline in fintech companies,&nbsp;with shares of Affirm Holdings (AFRM) and Jack Dorsey-backed Block Inc. (XYZ)&nbsp;also trading in the red.&nbsp;<a href="http://stocktwits.com/symbol/XYZ">Block’s stock</a> fell around 1.3% and&nbsp;<a href="http://stocktwits.com/symbol/AFRM">Affirm’s stock</a> dropped as much as 2.5%.
