AstraZeneca has agreed to make a strategic $2 billion equity investment in Summit Therapeutics, strengthening a broader collaboration centered on Summit’s lead bispecific antibody, ivonescimab. Under the deal, AstraZeneca will purchase convertible preferred shares equivalent to $18.36 per common share, a 10% premium to Summit’s five-day volume-weighted average price. The investment will strengthen Summit’s balance sheet and support its global clinical development efforts, while giving AstraZeneca a strategic stake in next-generation oncology therapies. The companies will also conduct a clinical trial combining ivonescimab with AstraZeneca’s investigational antibody-drug conjugate sonesitatug vedotin in gastrointestinal cancers, sharing study costs with AstraZeneca serving as sponsor. The companies also signed a nonbinding memorandum to explore combining ivonescimab with additional AstraZeneca oncology treatments, including its broader ADC portfolio. $AZN $SMMT

HUTCHMED announced Tuesday that AstraZeneca has submitted an application to the U.S. FDA seeking approval of the ORPATHYS-TAGRISSO combination for patients with advanced lung cancer. AstraZeneca said its breast cancer drug Etcamah failed to meet the primary endpoint of improving progression-free survival in a late-stage clinical trial, sending its U.S.-listed shares down about 3% in after-hours trading. The trial evaluated Etcamah in combination with palbociclib in previously untreated patients with advanced breast cancer. While the combination showed a numerical improvement in progression-free survival, it did not achieve the study’s primary goal, and AstraZeneca said it will provide the full trial results at a later date.
