The EIP-1559 upgrade introduced a dynamic base fee mechanism that burns ETH with each transaction, creating deflationary pressure during high network activity when more ETH is burned than issued to validators.  Vitalik Buterin proposed Ethereum in 2013, but seven co-founders helped build it, including Gavin Wood who created Solidity and the EVM technical specification, and Joseph Lubin who founded ConsenSys. The project launched in July 2015 after raising over $18 million through crowdfunding, quickly becoming the largest blockchain developer community. Major milestones include the 2020 Beacon Chain launch, the 2021 London hard fork implementing fee burning, and the 2022 Merge to Proof of Stake. Bitcoin heads for a fourth annual loss despite institutional support, ETF adoption and Trump backing, raising questions about what 2026 holds for crypto ETFs like IBIT.

The Bitcoin ($BTC.X) rally continued unabated as the biggest crypto in terms of market capitalization pushed past the $93K mark intraday on Wednesday before retreating below the level.As of 1:37 p.m. ET, Bitcoin rose 4.46% to $92,732.09.&nbsp;Hopes of more crypto-friendly policies from the incoming administration under&nbsp;President-elect&nbsp;Donald Trump have primarily fueled the recent run. From a recent low of $49,121.24 (Aug. 5), the crypto has jumped more than 88%. For the year-to-date, the gain is a steeper 119%.The recent surge has pushed Bitcoin’s market capitalization to about $1.83 trillion. It is now the world’s seventh largest asset after gold (estimated at $17.52 trillion) and Magnificent seven companies Nvidia Corp. ($NVDA), Apple, Inc. ($AAPL), Microsoft Corp. ($MSFT), Amazon, Inc. ($AMZN) and Alphabet, Inc. ($GOOGL) ($GOOGL).Prominent crypto analyst Ali Martinez flagged the possibility of Bitcoin exploding higher to $225,000. Cryptocurrencies have been on a tear over the weekend as Republican candidate Donald Trump's win in the 2024 presidential election catalyzed an extended rally in the spaceBitcoin ($BTC.X) broke above the psychological barrier of $80K for the first-time ever on Sunday, having gained over 17% over the past seven days. The spike has come amid increased volume, which surged by over 177%, lending credence to the upward move.As of 8:41 pm ET on Sunday, Bitcoin traded up 5.48% at $80,978.72.The rally could have a further leg, according to a technical analyst, who goes by the X handle @MikybullCrypto.
