Prices could rise by about $10 if pipeline capacity is utilized and global strategic petroleum reserves are released at 2 million barrels per day for one month, the firm stated on Tuesday.A partial disruption would have a smaller effect, with a 50% closure adding roughly $4 per barrel and a 25% disruption increasing prices by about $1. The bank also estimates that traders are demanding roughly $14 more per barrel than before the conflict to account for elevated risks — a premium that reflects the expected impact of a full four-week disruption of flows through the Strait of Hormuz.According to a Reuters report on Wednesday, Goldman Sachs raised its second-quarter 2026 average price forecast for Brent crude by $10 to $76 per barrel and increased its West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude outlook by $9 to $71.The firm said the higher estimates reflect expectations that reduced oil flows through the Strait of Hormuz will sharply lower Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) inventories and curb Middle East production in March.<h2 class="st-heading-2">European Gas Prices Could Surge To €100 MWh</h2>Analysts also warned that European gas and global LNG prices could rise sharply if the conflict escalates. US Natural Gas Futures Decline To Over 3-Week Lows – KOLD Gains 13%

Temperatures are projected to remain above normal in the Midwest and Southern U.S. through February 18, according to a Bloomberg report citing the Commodity Weather Group.

Citing data from the Energy Information Administration, he noted that inflation-adjusted crude oil prices have declined from peaks above $180 per barrel in 2008 to roughly $60 per barrel today.“Trump’s belief that he has captured a lucrative prize in Venezuela’s oil fields would be an unrealistic fantasy even if he really were in control of a nation that is, in practice, still controlled by the same thugs who controlled it before Maduro was abducted,” Krugman said.The economist stated that the U.S. raid on Venezuela is not for oil, but rather, for “oil fantasies,” adding that the vast amount of oil reserves that President Trump wants to take from the country do not exist.<h2 class="st-heading-2">The Orinoco Belt Problem</h2>Venezuela is currently known to have the largest oil reserves in the world, at nearly 304 billion barrels. Saudi Arabia comes second, with 267 billion barrels of proven reserves, followed by Iran at 209 billion barrels.However, Venezuela’s crude is extremely heavy, resulting in low recovery rates and high production costs, according to Apollo Chief Economist Torsten Slok.“Venezuela’s self-reported crude oil reserves tripled from around 100 billion barrels in the early 2000s to 300 billion barrels in the late 2000s due to the reclassification of Orinoco Belt heavy oil as ‘proved,’” said Slok in a note on Tuesday.Another problem with extracting crude from Venezuela’s reserves is the country’s aging oil infrastructure. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude was down 3.5% to $66 a barrel, while Brent crude futures&nbsp;were down more than 3.2% to $69.16 in morning trade.The United States Oil Fund (USO) was down nearly 3% in pre-market trade.
