<ul class="summary-bullets"><li>UNH stock has surged 47% since Feb. 10, becoming the Dow’s top-performing component.</li><li>The rally has outpaced AI winners including Amazon, Nvidia, Caterpillar and Cisco.</li><li>Trump’s latest filings disclosed multiple UNH purchases in the first quarter, including a $100,001-$250,000 trade on Jan.23.&nbsp;</li></ul>Shares of UnitedHealth Group (UNH) have emerged as the biggest driver of the Dow Jones Industrial Average’s return toward 50,000, turning a battered healthcare giant into one of Wall Street’s hottest comeback trades.<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/UNH">UNH stock</a> has surged 47% since Feb.10, making it the best-performing Dow component over the same period and outpacing even AI winners, including Amazon’s 31% gain, Caterpillar’s 22% rise, Nvidia’s 20% jump, and Cisco Systems’ 18% gain.&nbsp;<h2 class="st-heading-2">UNH Eyes Margin Recovery By 2028</h2>UnitedHealth entered the year under pressure after soaring medical costs, Medicare Advantage reimbursement changes, and a collapse in profit guidance rattled investors last year.Now, the healthcare firm says a turnaround is coming earlier than expected. At Bank of America’s Healthcare Conference this week, CFO Wayne DeVeydt said that first-quarter results pointed to “a very strong year” if conditions hold. He said Optum Health, a major drag last year, is now “performing better than expected, sooner than expected.”Optum Health posted $1.3 billion in adjusted operating profit with margins of 5.4%, ahead of analyst expectations. Bank of America Securities (BofA) later raised its price target on UNH shares to $420 from $380, implying a 5% upside from current levels. The bank cited “bullish” discussions at the conference, saying UnitedHealth is increasingly confident it can return most businesses to at least the low end of their target margin ranges by 2028.The company is still working through fallout from Medicare Advantage changes that UnitedHealth previously said could create a $6 billion hit this year. UnitedHealth has responded by renegotiating contracts, trimming its workforce, reworking benefits and divesting clinics. The company said membership losses are now tracking in line with projections and not as severe as worst-case scenarios.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Trump Trades Add Momentum</h2>UnitedHealth’s rally has also picked up a political tailwind. U.S. President Donald Trump’s latest filings showed multiple UNH purchases during the first quarter, including a trade valued between $100,001 and $250,000 on Jan.23.&nbsp;Additional filings showed smaller UNH purchases on Jan.12, Feb.23, March 17 and March 23, along with a separate purchase valued between $50,001 and $100,000 on March 18.<h2 class="st-heading-2">AI Becomes the New Bull Case</h2>DeVeydt said UnitedHealth expects to invest $1.5 billion into AI this year and is already generating at least a two-to-one return on those investments, with payback periods under 12 months. “Our confidence level is growing by the day around the benefits we are seeing,” he said. The company said AI is central to redesigning healthcare administration, automating claims processing and simplifying prior authorization systems.UnitedHealth has already rolled out AI-based tech across clinics, automated coding systems and real-time adjudication tools. The company also said it plans to reduce prior authorization requirements by 30% and process all authorizations in real time by the end of 2027.The AI strategy centers around Optum Health and Optum Insight, which UnitedHealth sees as long-term growth engines capable of driving both margin expansion and new software revenue streams. Optum Rx recently unveiled a “transparent, fee-based” pricing model to move away from traditional rebates.&nbsp;The move also comes as the pharmacy-benefit-manager industry faces mounting regulatory scrutiny over rebates and drug pricing. UNH Stock Becomes Dow’s Biggest Driver Back To 50,000 — Will Trump Tailwinds Spark Another Leg Higher?

The company surged more than 13% on Thursday alone, clocking a record high of $119.36 in intraday trading after its <a href="https://stocktwits.com/news-articles/markets/equity/csco-stock-soars-all-time-high-best-single-day-gains-6-years/cZX1UhmReSJ">third-quarter results</a> blew past Wall Street expectations.“Networking is a critical enabler of, and bottleneck to, AI model performance. This leads to high spending on AI network infrastructure that supports growth for Cisco and its peers. We expect this trend to continue powerfully over the next five years,” a recent Morningstar Report said.Meanwhile, Nvidia also notched a <a href="https://stocktwits.com/news-articles/markets/equity/why-did-nvda-poet-mrvl-stocks-hit-52-week-highs-today/cZXliT4ReSV">fresh 52-week high</a> of $236.54 on Thursday on media reports about Washington’s greenlight for the sales of its H200 chips to 10 Chinese firms, including Alibaba, Tencent, and ByteDance. The chipmaker has been in the green for nine weeks since Feb. 6 and has risen almost 25% since the start of the year.Amazon has also had a solid run this year, gaining nearly 18% so far in 2026, and surging more than 27% since Feb. 6. The company has been making moves to bolster its AI offerings since announcing a $200 billion capital expenditure allocation for 2026. Earlier this week, Amazon introduced "Alexa for Shopping," calling it "the world's best, most personalized AI assistant for shopping," in the U.S.Caterpillar and Apple have also contributed significantly to the Dow’s uptick. The Texas-based construction company has experienced significant demand for its power generation products, primarily due to the AI boom. Meanwhile, Apple’s strong quarterly results have reinforced optimism for demand around its AI-focused products.<h2 class="st-heading-2">What About Other Stocks?</h2>Apart from the AI-heavy names mentioned above, healthcare and insurance company UnitedHealth Group Inc. (UNH) has also aided the Dow’s rally, gaining more than 45% since the index’s February record.Earlier this week, BofA analyst Kevin Fischbeck raised the price target on the company to $420 from $380 and kept a ‘Neutral’ rating on the shares, indicating a further upside potential of 5% from its last close, noting that the tone of a discussion with the leadership team at the BofA Healthcare Conference was "bullish."Aside from these six stocks, other companies in the index have largely declined, with Nike Inc. U.S. equities soared in Thursday’s opening trade after President Donald Trump met his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, during a two-day state visit to China.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average jumped more than 300 points, reclaiming 50,000, while the S&P 500 index and the Nasdaq Composite rose to their new 52-week highs during Thursday’s opening trade.

<ul class="summary-bullets"><li>Kai Volatility Advisors founder Cem Karsan told Stocktwits in an exclusive interview that the current rally has no historical parallel in the last 100 years.</li><li>This time around, he said investors have been “trained” to buy market dips due to persistent government and policy support.</li><li>Karsan expects stocks to continue climbing through the summer before risks increase later in the year.</li></ul>The S&amp;P 500 and the Nasdaq Composite were on track to extend their record-setting rally in morning trade on&nbsp;Thursday, even after back-to-back inflation reports came in hotter than Wall Street expected.“We have never, ever seen a rally of this speed at this size not coming from a 20% decline or greater,” the founder and CIO of Kai Volatility Advisors, Cem Karsan, told Stocktwits in an&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L-jrSw3fWyk">exclusive interview</a>. “We have nine instances in 100 years. This is a one-in-a-hundred-year, first-time-only, data set of one in a century. I haven’t seen this before. It’s a new one. And yet I’m numb to it.”In the previous session, both the S&amp;P 500 and the Nasdaq Composite closed at fresh record highs and also hit new intraday peaks, despite investors facing off against another round of&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/news-articles/markets/cryptocurrency/ppi-inflation-triples-btc-wobbles-near-80-k-after-63-million-wipeout/cZXLkx2Re0x">elevated inflation data</a>.The&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/SPY">S&amp;P 500 ETF Trust (SPY)</a> edged 0.33% higher at market open. Markets had fallen 20%, 25%, 30% or more, while investors were under positioned, scared, and short. He noted that it was usually a government response in the shape of a liquidity injection, rate cuts, or fiscal stimulus to reverse the downtrend.&nbsp;The current rally also had investors under allocated, shorts squeezed but arrived without the prior decline, according to Karsan. The crisis that typically forced that under allocation was replaced by an administration actively creating it.<blockquote>“The one difference is why the data set is a one. It’s the first time in history, in a century of history, that the government has been this activist and interventionist in squeezing the market into that context.”&nbsp;&nbsp;— Cem Karsan, Founder &amp; CIO, Kai Volatility Advisors</blockquote>According to Karsan, the administration’s public messaging and policy approach have reinforced investor confidence that market weakness will repeatedly be met with supportive rhetoric or policy actions.“It’s not you sensing it,” he said in the interview. “You’re being trained. You buy the dip and you better buy the dip or you better not be short, because the admin’s gonna come in.”<h2 class="st-heading-2">The Market’s ‘Buy The Dip’ Reflex Keeps Strengthening</h2>Karsan stated that the scale of the current rally is creating its own liquidity cycle. He said that the entire global equity market is valued at around $300 trillion and estimated that a 20% rally creates $60 trillion in new collateral for corporations, private equity, and leveraged entities to deploy.&nbsp;By comparison, the U.S. government’s pandemic-era fiscal response totaled roughly $6 trillion to $7 trillion. “The incremental amount that moves markets on a daily basis is about $75 billion,” Karsan said. “The whole market is $300 trillion. Pocket change.”Karsan also compared the current environment to the late stages of the dot-com boom. In 1999, S&amp;P 500 earnings growth reached roughly 30%, supported by massive capital spending on internet infrastructure. In the latest quarter of 2026, earnings growth came in near 27%, he said.<h2 class="st-heading-2">How Long Will The Stock Market Rally Last?</h2>Karsan said he still expects markets to push higher through the summer. He pointed to June options-expiration flows, seasonal volatility compression, and continued enthusiasm around America’s 250th anniversary celebrations and the World Cup as factors that could keep risk assets elevated in the near term.“I don’t think it’s a coincidence that they pulled the V-bottom this April,” Karsan said. “The June vol compression kicks in and then everybody leaves for the beach. The whole thing is: juice it for the summer.”Karsan believes the next major signal will come through market leadership rotation. He expects AI and semiconductor stocks, which have dominated the rally, to eventually lose momentum as dealer hedging flows shift.
