Subway is bringing in former Burger King executive Jonathan Fitzpatrick as its next chief executive, with a mandate to improve sales in the U.S. and help the company expand globally.&nbsp;He will take over on July 28, becoming the first CEO since private equity firm Roark Capital acquired the company for $9.6 billion last year. Fitzpatrick’s appointment comes as Subway works to reverse a years-long sales decline in the U.S. and expand its global presence.&nbsp;Fitzpatrick will succeed John Chidsey, who helped guide the chain through its sale. Chidsey was the former CEO of Burger King before taking over the helm at Subway in 2019.&nbsp;In a statement, Fitzpatrick said he plans to collaborate with franchisees and staff to boost profitability and grow the brand internationally.Fitzpatrick has over two decades of experience in the franchising and quick-service restaurant sectors. Before working at Burger King, he served as the President and CEO of Driven Brands, which saw 17 consecutive quarters of same-store sales growth.&nbsp;Subway said the Fitzpatrick will be closely with the Interim CEO, Carrie Walsh, to ensure a seamless transition.&nbsp;For the first time in around two decades, the company’s U.S. store count fell below 20,000 at the end of 2024 – a net loss of 631 stores from the previous year. Krispy Kreme's (DNUT) move earlier this week to end its partnership with McDonald's (MCD) is largely priced into the donut seller's shares, and investors should "remain on the sidelines until the dust settles," an analyst said.The termination was largely expected after Krispy Kreme said in April it was reassessing the deployment schedule and cost-sharing for the program together with McDonald’s.The partnership, struck in March last year, allowed the sale of Krispy Kreme’s donuts in over 14,000 McDonald's stores in the U.S. The scheme could only be rolled out to 2,400 McDonald’s restaurants before the two sides launched a review."While disappointing, this news was largely expected after a pause to the partnership was announced in April," Truist said in an investor note, according to The Fly.The investment firm, which maintained its 'hold' rating on DNUT shares, stated that Krispy Kreme could leverage the capital expenditures made on the partnership; however, its margins are likely to decline before returning to 2024 levels.<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/DNUT">Krispy Kreme stock</a> lost only 0.7% on Tuesday following the announcement and shed 1.16% on Wednesday, before rebounding in after-hours trading.On Stocktwits, the retail sentiment for Krispy Kreme was 'neutral,' unchanged from a month ago.<figure class="image"><img style="aspect-ratio:806/107;" src="https://news.stocktwits-cdn.com/Screenshot_2025_06_26_130732_png_801c8f3789.webp" alt="Screenshot 2025-06-26 130732.png" width="806" height="107"><figcaption>DNUT sentiment and message volume as of June 25 | Source: Stocktwits</figcaption></figure>A user said: “Bet a lot of new eyes were on this today after the news.
