However, that has sparked quite a bit of criticism. But, the founder of Ethereum Market Research Center, William Mougayar, has chosen to defend the foundation, saying the current criticism is “profoundly misplaced.”Mougayar<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://x.com/wmougayar/status/2032628411630510351?s=20">&nbsp;pushed back</a> against criticism on Friday, saying the organization was often wrongly treated as the Ethereum network's central authority. “Criticizing the Ethereum Foundation has become the easiest reflex in this industry,” Mougayar wrote. “It’s convenient. It gives critics a single target to point at,” the author added, saying it is unwise to do so.Mougayar, who has a decade of experience as a blockchain analyst, explained that the foundation should be viewed as a “steward” of the protocol rather than as controlling the broader ecosystem. “Ethereum is not a company. These sales have garnered a lot of criticism for selling Ethereum in bear markets.​ Some critics believe it's hypocritical, saying that it pushes Ethereum's price to tank. The firm fielded $1.2B in first-quarter (Q1) redemptions, which represented 9.3% of the fund’s net asset value – double the 4.1% it saw in the previous quarter. According to an&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/2099103/000143774926004276/iset20260214_s1a.htm">S-1/A filing</a> from early February, BlackRock is preparing to launch its proposed iShares Staked Ethereum Trust (ETHB), which would allow the fund to stake Ethereum directly and earn rewards from the network. The filing stated that the trust may stake a large share of its Ethereum while keeping some assets available in case investors choose to sell their shares.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Crypto Investment Products Expand Beyond Bitcoin And Ethereum</h2>Amid this broader shift toward active crypto participation, crypto investment products have also grown sharply over the past five years. According to CoinShares’ Digital Asset Fund Flows&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://coinshares.com/corp/insights/research-data/fund-flows-29-12-25/">report</a> from late December, digital asset investment products recorded year-to-date inflows of around $46.3 billion.&nbsp;The report also showed that while Bitcoin and Ethereum products saw recent outflows, newer ETFs tied to digital assets such as&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/coins/ripple">Ripple’s XRP (XRP)</a> and&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/coins/solana">Solana (SOL</a>) saw inflows following their US launches. In a revised filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission for its iShares Staked Ethereum Trust ETF (ETHB), BlackRock said it plans to stake 70%–95% of the trust's Ether under normal conditions.&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://x.com/arkham/status/2025133554196512999?s=20">According</a> to Arkham Intelligence, BlackRock will also maintain a 5% to 30% "liquidity sleeve" of tokens unstaked to handle creations and redemptions. Bitcoin ETF Balances Slide To 100K BTC, Since October Peak

BlackRock expands beyond ETHA with a staked ETH ETF plan, even as it trims Bitcoin ETF balances.

On Stockwits, the retail sentiment around BTC remained in the ‘bearish’ territory, as the chatter levels around it remained at ‘low’ over the past day.&nbsp;<h2 class="st-heading-2">V-shaped Recovery In Whale Balances</h2>An analyst, Cauconomy,&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://cryptoquant.com/insights/quicktake/69983917c876a02133a04bc2-Whales-reaccumulate-everything-they-sold-since-October">explained</a> that “the entire reduction in whale reserves that occurred after October last year has now been reversed.” He added that “[this] V-shaped recovery signaled strong institutional accumulation in the last 30 days, taking advantage of falling prices and accumulating more than 98 thousand BTCs.&nbsp;In late 2020 and early 2021, whale balances went from sharp distribution to rapid reaccumulation. This change happened before Bitcoin's big continuation leg during the 2021 bull run. The current setup from late 2025 to early 2026 is similar, with big holders selling near local tops and then quickly rebuilding their positions during the pullback.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Ethereum Accumulating Whales Mirror The Pattern</h2>Ethereum accumulation trends also drew attention from industry experts.Fundstrat head of research Tom Lee&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/news-articles/markets/cryptocurrency/bmnr-tom-lee-sees-v-shaped-ethereum-price-recovery-adds-40000-eth/cZbxDzmR4YT">said last week that Ethereum</a> had historically staged V-shaped recoveries following major corrections. He noted that ETH declined by 64% from January to March of the previous year. “However, in each of the eight instances, the chart showed a V-shaped recovery. The asset rebounded 100% of the time almost as quickly as it fell,” Lee added.Separately, a CryptoQuant contributor, CryptoMe,&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://cryptoquant.com/insights/quicktake/699751bb312550148f4ec160-ETH-Is-Falling-What-Are-Accumulating-Whales-Doing-Right-Now-Buying-or-Sellilng">shared</a> data showing that Ethereum “accumulating addresses” increased balances. He said once markets move past the tariff agenda, attention could return to cooling inflation, softer labor data, and the prospect of Federal Reserve rate cuts.&nbsp;“With positive Washington tailwinds, I think Bitcoin can do well to the end of the year,” Lee said, adding that Bitcoin reaching $150,000 or higher remains possible even though sentiment feels weak.Lee said recent market weakness has been largely driven by uncertainty over trade policy. He explained that tariffs can push inflation higher and make it harder for the Fed to cut rates. If the court limits tariffs, inflation pressure could ease, giving the Fed more room to lower rates and improving conditions for risk assets like Bitcoin (BTC).Lee also added that the Court’s involvement could reduce one of the biggest sources of policy uncertainty facing markets.
