Like other cryptocurrencies, Ripple is built atop the idea of a distributed ledger network which requires various parties to participate in validating transactions, rather than any singular centralized authority. That facilitates transactions all over the world, and transfer fees are far cheaper than the likes of bitcoin. Unlike other cryptocurrencies, XRP transfers are effectively immediate, requiring no typical confirmation time.  Ripple was originally founded by a single company, Ripple Labs, and continues to be backed by it, rather than the larger network of developers that continue bitcoin’s development. It also doesn’t have a fluctuating amount of its currency in existence. Where bitcoin has a continually growing pool with an eventual maximum, and Ethereum theoretically has no limit, Ripple was created with all of its 100 billion XRP tokens right out of the gate. That number is maintained with no mining and most of the tokens are owned and held by Ripple Labs itself — around 60 billion at the latest count.  Even at the recently reduced value of around half a dollar per XRP, that means Ripple Labs is currently sitting on around $20 billion worth of the cryptocurrency (note: Ripple’s price crashed hard recently, and may be worth far less than $60 billion by time you read this). It holds 55 billion XRP in an escrow account, which allows it to sell up to a billion per month if it so chooses in order to fund new projects and acquisitions. Selling such an amount would likely have a drastic effect on the cryptocurrency’s value, and isn’t something Ripple Labs plans to do anytime soon.  In actuality, Ripple Labs is looking to leverage the technology behind XRP to allow for faster banking transactions around the world. While Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies are built on the idea of separating financial transactions from the financial organizations of traditional currencies, Ripple is almost the opposite in every sense. USAR Stock Soars Pre-Market As USA Rare Earth Announces $1.6 Billion Deal With Trump Administration For An Equity Stake

Oil giant Shell (SHEL) announced on Wednesday that it will need to refile its financial statements in the U.S. and U.K. after its auditor, Ernst &amp; Young, was found to have violated mandatory rotation rules intended to preserve auditor independence.Despite the news,&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/SHEL">Shell’s stock</a> was up nearly 1% in pre-market trade. However, retail sentiment on Stocktwits dipped to ‘neutral’ territory from ‘bullish’ a day ago as chatter also tempered to ‘high’ levels from ‘extremely high’.&nbsp;Due to the breach, Shell said that Ernst &amp; Young’s (EY) audit opinion for those two years can no longer be fully relied upon under U.S. law. It plans to amend its SEC filings for those years.&nbsp;The company stated that EY has replaced the audit partner and issued updated opinions, which remain “unqualified,” indicating that there are no major issues with the reported numbers.&nbsp;The update comes after the Big Four accounting firm was fined £325,000 ($445,000) in April by the U.K.’s Financial Reporting Council (FRC) for auditing listed company Stirling Water Seafield Finance for more than 10 years without publicly retendering for the contract.The FRC is reviewing the new case and may decide to launch a formal investigation, according to a Financial Times&nbsp;<a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.ft.com/content/3c64ed46-fc82-4ce3-ae63-7d26036e2cec">report.</a>EY acknowledged the error, said it had taken corrective action, and emphasized that no financial results need to be revised.The auditor made $66 million from Shell-related work in 2024, according to the company’s annual report. The update came as gold prices briefly&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/news-articles/markets/equity/gold-tops-3000-dollars-boosts-newmont-other-mining-stocks/ch7Io9nRbTX">crossed</a> the $3,000 mark, boosting sentiment across the sector.In its annual report, Barrick highlighted progress on two key Tier One projects – the Lumwana Super Pit Expansion in Zambia, which adds 8.3 million tonnes of copper reserves, and the Reko Diq project in Pakistan, which contributes 13 million ounces of gold and 7.3 million tonnes of copper reserves.Barrick also replenished all mined gold and copper in 2024, replacing 4.6 million ounces of attributable gold mineral reserves at improved grades.&nbsp;CEO Mark Bristow credited the company’s integrated resource and exploration strategy, saying it has built "a foundation that supports a projected 30% growth in gold-equivalent ounces out to the end of the decade."The company replaced all mined gold and copper in 2024, replenishing 4.6 million ounces of attributable gold mineral reserves at improved grades.&nbsp;Bristow emphasized that Barrick maintains a strong balance sheet, enabling it to fund the Lumwana and Reko Diq developments without issuing new shares or taking on excessive debt.&nbsp;Beyond these two projects, Barrick is advancing its Pueblo Viejo expansion in the Dominican Republic, which is on track to exceed 800,000 ounces in annual production.
