Oil giant Shell (SHEL) announced on Wednesday that it will need to refile its financial statements in the U.S. and U.K. after its auditor, Ernst &amp; Young, was found to have violated mandatory rotation rules intended to preserve auditor independence.Despite the news,&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/SHEL">Shell’s stock</a> was up nearly 1% in pre-market trade. However, retail sentiment on Stocktwits dipped to ‘neutral’ territory from ‘bullish’ a day ago as chatter also tempered to ‘high’ levels from ‘extremely high’.&nbsp;Due to the breach, Shell said that Ernst &amp; Young’s (EY) audit opinion for those two years can no longer be fully relied upon under U.S. law. It plans to amend its SEC filings for those years.&nbsp;The company stated that EY has replaced the audit partner and issued updated opinions, which remain “unqualified,” indicating that there are no major issues with the reported numbers.&nbsp;The update comes after the Big Four accounting firm was fined £325,000 ($445,000) in April by the U.K.’s Financial Reporting Council (FRC) for auditing listed company Stirling Water Seafield Finance for more than 10 years without publicly retendering for the contract.The FRC is reviewing the new case and may decide to launch a formal investigation, according to a Financial Times&nbsp;<a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.ft.com/content/3c64ed46-fc82-4ce3-ae63-7d26036e2cec">report.</a>EY acknowledged the error, said it had taken corrective action, and emphasized that no financial results need to be revised.The auditor made $66 million from Shell-related work in 2024, according to the company’s annual report. Despite the breach, Shell hasn’t said if it will drop EY, though shareholders will vote on whether to reappoint the firm at next year’s annual meeting. Before the incident, Shell stated that it plans to retain EY for another decade.Piper Sandler also raised its price target on Shell to $83 from $80 on Wednesday, while maintaining an ‘Overweight’ rating on the stock as per TheFly. Analyst Ryan Todd said the upward revision was part of a broader update to the firm’s second-quarter estimates for integrated oil companies, reflecting recent movements in commodity prices, refining margins, and minor adjustments to operating assumptions.For Shell specifically, Piper increased its Q2 earnings per share and earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) projections by 14% and 10%, respectively, citing higher assumed crude oil prices as the primary driver. Barrick Gold (GOLD) shares rose 1.6% in midday trading Friday after the company outlined its strategy for 30% growth in gold-equivalent ounces by the end of the decade. (MITSY) signed agreements to acquire a 40% interest in the Rhodes Ridge Joint Venture (RRJV), a major mining project in Australia, from Rio Tinto's existing partners.The deal, subject to regulatory approvals and other conditions, strengthens Mitsui’s presence in Australian mining and leaves Rio Tinto's 50% stake in the project unchanged.&nbsp;Mitsui agreed to purchase the entirety of VOC Group’s 25% interest in the venture and separately entered a heads of agreement to acquire an additional 15% from AMB Holdings Pty.&nbsp;If the second transaction closes, AMB Holdings will retain a 10% stake.Rio Tinto is advancing development at Rhodes Ridge. Barrick Gold (GOLD) stock surged over 6% on Wednesday morning after the miner posted better-than-expected earnings, bolstered by higher production and improved cash flow.The stock was among the top trending tickers on Stocktwits.The company reported earnings of $0.46 per share for the fourth quarter (Q4), beating Wall Street’s estimate of $0.42, according to Stocktwits data.&nbsp;However, revenue fell short at $3.65 billion, missing the $3.95 billion consensus forecast.For the full year, net income surged 69% to $2.14 billion, while adjusted net earnings climbed 51% to $2.21 billion.&nbsp;Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBIDTA) rose 30% to $5.19 billion, marking its highest level in more than a decade.&nbsp;Operating cash flow increased 20% year-over-year to $4.49 billion, while free cash flow more than doubled to $1.32 billion, driven by strong earnings and disciplined cost management, according to management.Gold production rose 15% in the fourth quarter compared to the previous quarter, while copper output increased 33%.The company also trimmed its gold cost of sales by 3% and total cash costs by 5%.&nbsp;Barrick highlighted progress at Pueblo Viejo, where recovery rates improved despite lower production grades. Barrick Gold Stock Dips On Mali Gold Seizure Amid Revenue Dispute: Retail Divided

Mali's interim gold seizure order marks the latest escalation in a dispute with Barrick over revenue distribution from the Loulo-Gounkoto mine.

Barrick Gold Corp. (GOLD) stock was down more than 1.5% in mid-day trading on Monday after the company issued a one-week ultimatum to Mali's government to lift restrictions on gold shipments.
