With a fixed supply cap of 21 million coins and programmatic halvings every four years that reduce miner rewards, Bitcoin is designed as a deflationary digital asset often called "digital gold." The Bitcoin ecosystem continues to evolve with innovations like Ordinals, which emerged in January 2023 to enable NFT-like functionality directly on Bitcoin, and BRC-20 tokens, an experimental standard for creating fungible tokens using Ordinal inscriptions. BTCFi (Bitcoin Finance) represents emerging financial applications extending beyond Bitcoin's traditional role, with protocols like Babylon allowing Bitcoin holders to stake BTC to secure Proof of Stake chains.

This infrastructure supports a sustained throughput of 1,500 transactions per second and includes a built-in decentralized exchange that allows for the automated trading of any tokenized asset without intermediaries.  The project traces its origins back to 2004 with Ryan Fugger before being co-founded in its modern form by Jed McCaleb and Chris Larsen. The company, now known as Ripple, works with major financial institutions as partners and investors to build global payment solutions. To protect the network from spam, a small amount of XRP is burned during every transaction, and the token is further utilized by institutions as collateral to access traditional markets and manage digital asset infrastructure.  Institutional adoption of the asset reached a major milestone in November 2025 when the SEC approved the first wave of spot XRP ETFs. These products, offered by major issuers including Bitwise, Grayscale, 21Shares, Canary Capital, and Franklin Templeton, are now listed on prominent exchanges like the NYSE Arca, Nasdaq, and Cboe BZX. While Ripple remains a key contributor to the ecosystem, the underlying XRP Ledger continues to operate as an open-source and decentralized network.

Smart contracts are self-executing programs written in Solidity that automatically carry out agreements when conditions are met, eliminating intermediaries like banks or brokers.   Validators stake ETH as collateral to propose and validate blocks, earning rewards for honest participation while facing penalties for malicious behavior. The EIP-1559 upgrade introduced a dynamic base fee mechanism that burns ETH with each transaction, creating deflationary pressure during high network activity when more ETH is burned than issued to validators.  Vitalik Buterin proposed Ethereum in 2013, but seven co-founders helped build it, including Gavin Wood who created Solidity and the EVM technical specification, and Joseph Lubin who founded ConsenSys. The project launched in July 2015 after raising over $18 million through crowdfunding, quickly becoming the largest blockchain developer community. Major milestones include the 2020 Beacon Chain launch, the 2021 London hard fork implementing fee burning, and the 2022 Merge to Proof of Stake.   Ether (ETH) serves multiple functions: paying transaction fees (gas), staking to secure the network and earn 3-5% annual yields, serving as collateral in DeFi protocols, and purchasing NFTs and digital assets. Ethereum's roadmap focuses on dramatically increasing transaction capacity to over 100,000 per second, reducing confirmation times, and enhancing decentralization while maintaining security against future threats like quantum computing.

However, adjusted earnings per share (EPS) for the quarter stood at $0.06 compared to a Street estimate of $0.19, according to FinChat data. Net income fell 19% YoY to $39 million.The company incurred a total of $34.3 million in dry-docking expenses in the fourth quarter (Q4) for 13 dry-dockings, compared to $9.7 million for five dry-dockings in the third quarter (Q3) of 2024.Interim CEO Peder Simonsen said the company is utilizing the current market weakness to upgrade its fleet significantly.“Looking ahead, we are encouraged by the continued strength in global dry bulk demand, the supportive supply-side dynamics, and the structural tailwinds in key commodities, all of which reinforce our long-term confidence in the market and our ability to create value for shareholders,” he noted.The company exercised a purchase option for eight vessels chartered on long-term leases from SFL Corporation for $112 million. It said a new $90 million credit facility will partially finance the acquisition.Golden Ocean has announced a cash dividend of $0.15 per share for Q4 2024, payable on or about March 21, 2025, to shareholders of record on March 11, 2025. During Q4, the company repurchased 625,000 shares at an aggregate purchase price of $5.7 million, or $9.08 per share.On Stocktwits, retail sentiment climbed further into the ‘extremely bullish’ territory (92/100), hitting a one-year high.
