(RARE) shares plunged over 41% on Monday after the company announced disappointing results from its Phase 3 studies for its experimental drug designed to help people with brittle bone disease.The company said that results from the Phase 3 Orbit and Cosmic studies for setrusumab (UX143) in Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI), conducted in partnership with Mereo Biopharma (MREO), did not significantly reduce annualized clinical fracture rates compared to placebo or bisphosphonates, respectively. However, both studies showed improvements in bone mineral density, the company said.The firm also said it will significantly reduce expenses after evaluating its planned operations.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Trial Details</h2>In the Orbit study, participants showed substantial improvements in bone mineral density compared with the placebo group. However, that did not result in a significant reduction in annualized fracture rates, since the placebo group also had a low fracture rate, the company noted.In the Cosmic study, which included pediatric patients, the baseline fracture rate was substantially higher than in the Orbit patient group. Shares of MoonLake Immunotherapeutics (MLTX) rebounded 14% on Tuesday after a near 90% plunge on Monday.MoonLake on Sunday <a href="https://stocktwits.com/news-articles/markets/equity/moonlake-stock-crashes-premarket-after-sonelokimab-phase-3-data/chDMDY2R37p">announced</a> 16-week results from its late-stage VELA-1 and VELA-2 identical trials of Sonelokimab in patients with moderate-to-severe hidradenitis suppurativa (HS), also known as acne inversa — a chronic inflammatory condition characterized by painful, boil-like nodules that can rupture, drain pus, and leave scars.In VELA-1, Sonelokimab achieved statistical significance for all primary and key secondary endpoints, including a substantial improvement in the disease. However, in VELA-2, the drug failed to achieve statistical significance. Subsequently, on Monday, MLTX closed at $6.25, marking its lowest levels in over three years. The stock is currently trading at $7.41.The mixed data drew several price target cuts. Needham analyst Serge Belanger lowered the firm's price target on MoonLake Immunotherapeutics to $20 from $66 on Tuesday, but maintained a ‘Buy’ rating on the shares. These together sum up to a multibillion-dollar market, the firm noted.Citi analyst Samantha Semenkow, meanwhile, downgraded MoonLake Immunotherapeutics to ‘Neutral’ from ‘Buy’ with a price target of $5, down from $72, on "significant" regulatory risk for the drug. MoonLake Immunotherapeutics Stock Draws Wall Street Attention Post Monday’s Plunge: Retail Sees Significant Upside

(VRNA) on Wednesday announced that the two companies have entered into a definitive agreement under which Merck, through a subsidiary, will acquire Verona Pharma.Merck will <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.merck.com/news/merck-to-acquire-verona-pharma-expanding-its-portfolio-to-include-ohtuvayre-ensifentrine-a-first-in-class-copd-maintenance-treatment-for-adults-and-expected-to-drive-growth-into-the-next-dec/">acquire</a> Verona for $107 per American Depository Share (ADS), each of which represents eight Verona Pharma ordinary shares, for a total transaction value of approximately $10 billion.The purchase price represents a 23.2% upside to Verona ADS’s closing price on Tuesday.VRNA shares were trading 21% higher in the pre-market session at the time of writing.London-based Verona is a biopharmaceutical company focused on respiratory diseases.Through the acquisition, <a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/MRK">Merck</a> will add Ohtuvayre to its expanding cardiovascular and pulmonary pipeline and portfolio. Ohtuvayre was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in 2024 for the maintenance treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in adult patients.
