Ripple is the catchall name for the cryptocurrency platform, the transactional protocol for which is actually XRP, in the same fashion as Ethereum is the name for the platform that facilitates trades in Ether. Like other cryptocurrencies, Ripple is built atop the idea of a distributed ledger network which requires various parties to participate in validating transactions, rather than any singular centralized authority. That facilitates transactions all over the world, and transfer fees are far cheaper than the likes of bitcoin. Unlike other cryptocurrencies, XRP transfers are effectively immediate, requiring no typical confirmation time.  Ripple was originally founded by a single company, Ripple Labs, and continues to be backed by it, rather than the larger network of developers that continue bitcoin’s development. It also doesn’t have a fluctuating amount of its currency in existence. Where bitcoin has a continually growing pool with an eventual maximum, and Ethereum theoretically has no limit, Ripple was created with all of its 100 billion XRP tokens right out of the gate. That number is maintained with no mining and most of the tokens are owned and held by Ripple Labs itself — around 60 billion at the latest count.  Even at the recently reduced value of around half a dollar per XRP, that means Ripple Labs is currently sitting on around $20 billion worth of the cryptocurrency (note: Ripple’s price crashed hard recently, and may be worth far less than $60 billion by time you read this). It holds 55 billion XRP in an escrow account, which allows it to sell up to a billion per month if it so chooses in order to fund new projects and acquisitions. Selling such an amount would likely have a drastic effect on the cryptocurrency’s value, and isn’t something Ripple Labs plans to do anytime soon.  In actuality, Ripple Labs is looking to leverage the technology behind XRP to allow for faster banking transactions around the world. While Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies are built on the idea of separating financial transactions from the financial organizations of traditional currencies, Ripple is almost the opposite in every sense. Its quarterly net income rose to $455.94 million, or $4.24 per share, compared with $312.96 million, or $2.91 per share, a year earlier.<h2 class="st-heading-2">How Did First Solar’s Sales Rise?</h2>The company said the sales growth was primarily driven by higher shipment volumes and the anticipated back-weighted delivery profile over the course of the year. The company logged 5.3 gigawatts (GW) of module sales during the quarter, including 2.5 GW from its U.S. manufacturing facilities.U.S. solar project developers are increasingly buying First Solar’s panels, which use cadmium telluride rather than the more common crystalline silicon used by most manufacturers, including those in China.“The U.S. policy and trade environment remains generally favorable,” CEO Mark Widmar said, adding that the company is keenly waiting for the Section 232 import tariffs decision on polysilicon and its derivatives, a key material in solar panels. A Tariff Rate Quota (TRQ) is widely anticipated to be implemented through Section 232. This would allow a certain amount of each targeted product to enter the U.S. annually before duties are applied.First Solar said it will launch a 3.7 GW solar module-finishing facility in the fourth quarter of 2026 and ramp up in the first half of 2027. It also cut its selling volume forecast to 16.7 GW to 17.4 GW, down from 16.7 GW to 19.3 GW projected earlier.The company said it terminated 6.6 gigawatts of bookings under multi-year agreements, defaulted on by affiliates of energy firm BP, at a base average selling price of $0.294 per watt. Reports have emerged that BP is looking to offload its U.S. renewable operations amid its cost-cutting drive.The modules subject to the contract breach are a mix of domestic and international products, First Solar said, with most scheduled for production in the third quarter and future quarters, and deliveries expected to extend into 2029.
