The company stated that these factors impacted profitability, along with higher operating expenses related to artificial intelligence (AI) and other research and development (R&amp;D) projects.On the earnings call, CFO Vaibhav Taneja flagged potential adverse&nbsp;effects for the energy business from President Donald Trump’s “one big, beautiful” bill (through expiration of energy credit) and tariffs.In a statement, Tesla said, “Q2 2025 was a seminal point in Tesla’s history: the beginning of our transition from leading the electric vehicle and renewable energy industries to also becoming a leader in AI, robotics, and related services.”The company stated that it had produced its first builds of the more affordable version in June, with volume production expected in the second half of 2025. (TSLA) shares edged up in Wednesday’s early premarket session ahead of the electric vehicle (EV) maker’s earnings report due after the market close.Stung by a demand slowdown amid macroeconomic uncertainties, and CEO Elon Musk’s political overtures and concerns over his divided attention to his flagship business,&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/TSLA">Tesla stock</a> is down nearly 18% for the year. This contrasts with the S&amp;P 500’s 8% advance over the same period.The stock, which is part of the Magnificent Seven group of mega-cap companies, is the&nbsp;worst-performing among them. The<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/MAGS"> Roundhill Magnificent Seven ETF (MAGS)</a>, an exchange-traded fund (ETF) that tracks the performance of these seven stocks, has gained 5.46% year-to-date.According to Fiscal.ai-compiled consensus, Tesla is expected to report adjusted earnings per share (EPS) of $0.41 and revenue of $22.13 billion for the second quarter of the fiscal year 2025&nbsp;versus the year-ago quarter’s $0.40 and $25.5 billion, respectively. (TSLA) stock experienced one of its biggest drawdowns, which shaved nearly $154 billion from the Elon Musk-led electric vehicle (EV) company’s market capitalization.Musk, the world’s richest person, saw his net worth drop by roughly $34 billion, as a large portion of his wealth is linked to his electric vehicle company.Musk-Trump Lock HornsThe development came after Musk and President Donald Trump exchanged tirades on social media, days after the former exited from the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) — a quasi-governmental agency set up by the latter immediately after he was sworn in as president.The DOGE was established to&nbsp;identify and eliminate wasteful government expenditures, aiming to reduce the ballooning U.S. fiscal deficit.&nbsp;While leaving the DOGE in a public ceremony in the White House, the two professed longlasting camaraderie.Things took a turn for the worse&nbsp;within a week. The feud started when Musk raised objections to Trump's “one, big, beautiful bill,’ calling it a “disgusting abomination.” On Thursday, Musk intensified his attack by posting on X, a social-media platform he owns, that the president wouldn’t have won a second term without his support.&nbsp;Trump did not take kindly to the comment. Calling Musk “crazy,” the president threatened&nbsp;to cancel the federal contracts of the companies owned by him. Elon Musk's brain implant company Neuralink announced Monday a $650 million capital raise in a new funding round, while his artificial intelligence (AI) venture xAI has reportedly opted for a debt offering.The development came shortly after the Tesla CEO&nbsp;confirmed his exit from the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which took up&nbsp;much of the billionaire’s time.&nbsp;Investors, including Sequoia Capital, Thrive Capital, Peter Thiel’s Founders Fund, Lightspeed Venture Partners and Cathie Wood’s Ark Investment&nbsp;Management participated in Neuralink’s Series E funding round.Neuralink said that since its Series D financing in August 2023, its brain implant has been used by five individuals with severe paralysis, and global clinical trials have been launched for neurosurgical care spanning three countries and two continents.The Series D financing raised $280 million from investors such as Founders Fund.&nbsp;The Musk-backed company has also launched a trial, dubbed CONVOY, to test out new use cases beyond digital device control. Additionally, it has invested heavily in expanding the number of neurons and brain regions that our device interfaces with to unlock new dimensions of human potential.Neuralink’s brain-computer interface (BCI) product, the N1 implant, is designed to record neural activity through 1,024 electrodes distributed across 64 flexible leads, or “threads.” Each of these threads are thinner than a human hair and can be placed independently in the brain.The company said the five individuals with severe paralysis who use Neuralink&nbsp;can now control digital and physical devices with their thoughts, marking a profound step toward helping restore independence.BCI research is gaining momentum, with Neuralink’s rival and startup, Paradromics, testing its device, Connexus, in its first human patients in May.&nbsp;Last month, Synchron, a New York-based medical equipment manufacturer, announced&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/news-articles/markets/equity/apple-steps-into-elon-musk-neuralink-territory-with-brian-control-tech/chiqLaIRbZy">teaming up</a> with Apple (APPL), allowing the latter to add a new protocol to support "Switch Control" for BCI in its hardware devices.Separately, a Bloomberg report citing people familiar with the matter said Musk-owned xAI has roped in Morgan Stanley to raise $5 billion in debt. The high-flying Tesla, Inc. ($TSLA) shares face a key test as the Elon Musk-led electric vehicle (EV) maker is scheduled to report its fourth quarter deliveries this week.&nbsp;Tesla shares have gained a whopping 74% this year—a nice comeback after being an underperformer among the mega-caps for much of the year.UBS analyst Joseph Spak expects Tesla to report quarterly deliveries of 510,000 units, 1% below the consensus estimate of 512,000, TheFly reported. The year-ago and previous quarters' numbers are 484,507 and 462,890 units, respectively. Citing investor conversations, the analyst said buy-side expectations are in the range of 500,000-510,000 units.Spak does not expect the light fourth-quarter number to meaningfully impact the stock due to the artificial intelligence (AI)-driven narrative on the stock.&nbsp;UBS has a ‘Sell’ rating on the stock and $226 price target.&nbsp;Troy Teslike, a Tesla forecaster,&nbsp;<a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://x.com/TroyTeslike/status/1872985674489762118">said</a> in a post on X that he expects Tesla to have sold fewer EVs in the U.S. in 2024 due to waning demand. He added that the company’s China sales are expected to surpass the U.S. sales for the first time.Last week, Barclays said it expects fourth-quarter deliveries of 515,000 units. The firm said a beat could keep the stock’s narrative momentum strong, but investors' focus on the company’s fundamentals is limited. According to the firm, the spotlight is on Tesla’s autonomous vehicle and AI push ahead of the anticipated launch of the ‘’unsupervised full self-driving’’ in 2025.&nbsp;Barclays has an ‘Equal-weight’ rating and a $270 price target for the stock.&nbsp;TheFly also reported that GLJ Research’s Gordon Johnson, who is bearish on Tesla, estimates deliveries of 493,215 units for the quarter.Tesla stock hit an all-time high of $465.33 intraday on Thursday before pulling back to $454.13. Tesla Analyst Says Q4 Deliveries Likely To Slightly Undershoot Wall Street’s Target: Retail Stays Neutral On Stock

UBS’ Joseph Spak does not expect a potentially light fourth-quarter number to meaningfully impact the stock due to the AI-driven narrative on the stock. 

NYSE-listed ADSs of Chinese electric-vehicle (EV) startup Nio, Inc. (<a class="mention" data-mention="$NIO" data-symbol-id="NIO" href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/NIO" target="_blank">$NIO</a>) are experiencing volatility on Thursday, as traders take stock of a negative analyst action.A day after the company reported a double miss for the third quarter, Macquarie analyst Eugene Hsiao downgraded Nio ADS from Outperform to Neutral and reduced the price target from $6.60 to $4.80.Commenting on the Shanghai, China-based EV maker’s quarterly performance, Hsiao said weaker demand for core Nio brand and a slower ONVO production ramp led to a 18% revenue miss versus the midpoint of the guidance range.Nio, which has positioned itself as a maker of premium EVs, forayed into the low-end with the mid-September launch of its first vehicle, named L60 under its affordable ONVO brand.
