Ripple is the catchall name for the cryptocurrency platform, the transactional protocol for which is actually XRP, in the same fashion as Ethereum is the name for the platform that facilitates trades in Ether. Like other cryptocurrencies, Ripple is built atop the idea of a distributed ledger network which requires various parties to participate in validating transactions, rather than any singular centralized authority. That facilitates transactions all over the world, and transfer fees are far cheaper than the likes of bitcoin. Unlike other cryptocurrencies, XRP transfers are effectively immediate, requiring no typical confirmation time.  Ripple was originally founded by a single company, Ripple Labs, and continues to be backed by it, rather than the larger network of developers that continue bitcoin’s development. It also doesn’t have a fluctuating amount of its currency in existence. Where bitcoin has a continually growing pool with an eventual maximum, and Ethereum theoretically has no limit, Ripple was created with all of its 100 billion XRP tokens right out of the gate. That number is maintained with no mining and most of the tokens are owned and held by Ripple Labs itself — around 60 billion at the latest count.  Even at the recently reduced value of around half a dollar per XRP, that means Ripple Labs is currently sitting on around $20 billion worth of the cryptocurrency (note: Ripple’s price crashed hard recently, and may be worth far less than $60 billion by time you read this). It holds 55 billion XRP in an escrow account, which allows it to sell up to a billion per month if it so chooses in order to fund new projects and acquisitions. Selling such an amount would likely have a drastic effect on the cryptocurrency’s value, and isn’t something Ripple Labs plans to do anytime soon.  In actuality, Ripple Labs is looking to leverage the technology behind XRP to allow for faster banking transactions around the world. While Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies are built on the idea of separating financial transactions from the financial organizations of traditional currencies, Ripple is almost the opposite in every sense. Strategy (MSTR) shares rose nearly 3% on Monday morning after the Michael Saylor-led firm disclosed that it had purchased 1,045 Bitcoin (BTC) for $110.2 million between June 2 and June 8.<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/BTC.X">Bitcoin’s price</a> was also trending higher on Monday, rising by around 2% in the last 24 hours to trade at more than $107,800, even as the broader&nbsp;cryptocurrency market value slipped by 0.6% in the same period.The latest purchase brings Strategy’s total holdings to 582,000 BTC, purchased for approximately $40.8 billion at an average cost of $70,086 per coin.According to&nbsp;a filing, Strategy sold 626,639 STRK shares – its 8.00% Series A perpetual strike preferred stock – for a face value of $62.7 million, yielding net proceeds of $66.4 million.&nbsp;An additional 432,679 STRF shares – its 10.00% Series A perpetual strike preferred stock – were sold for a face value of $43.3 million, generating $45.8 million in net proceeds.&nbsp;No shares were sold under the company’s common stock ATM program during the same period.The funds were used to acquire 1,045 Bitcoin at an average price of $105,426 per coin, inclusive of fees and expenses.&nbsp;The STRK and STRF offerings were established in March and May of this year, respectively, with combined program sizes exceeding $23 billion. Strategy Adds Another 1,045 Bitcoin To Treasury With $110M Buy

The latest purchase brings Strategy’s total holdings to 582,000 BTC, purchased for approximately $40.8 billion at an average cost of $70,086 per coin.

Strategy (MSTR) stock climbed over 3% in pre-market trade on Thursday ahead of its first-quarter earnings, scheduled for after the bell.&nbsp;Wall Street expects the Bitcoin-heavy software firm to report a net loss of $0.02 per share on $116 million in revenue, according to Koyfin data.Formerly known as MicroStrategy, the company announced Monday that it had added 15,355 Bitcoin (BTC) to its&nbsp;holdings, valued at $1.42 billion at the time of purchase.&nbsp;The new acquisition brings Strategy’s total Bitcoin reserve to 553,555 tokens, now worth more than $53 billion based on current BTC prices,&nbsp;which are just above $96,000, according to Bitcoin Treasuries.Shares of Strategy have risen 26% year-to-date, outperforming Bitcoin’s 18% gain over the same period. Over the past 12 months,&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/MSTR/">Strategy’s stock</a>&nbsp;has risen more than 200%, while&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/BTC.X">Bitcoin’s price</a> has gained roughly 60%.Analyst expectations are high as the earnings report&nbsp;approaches. H.C. Wainwright initiated coverage&nbsp;of the stock this week with a ‘Buy’ rating and a $480 price target, calling Strategy one of the “most compelling” ways to gain leveraged exposure to Bitcoin through public markets, in a note to clients cited by TheFly.The brokerage cited the company’s ability to raise equity and debt capital at scale to expand its holdings, at a pace exceeding share issuance, as a justification for a “durable and healthy premium” to net asset value.The average price target on Strategy shares stands at $487.44, implying roughly 28% upside from Wednesday’s close. Strategy Stock Climbs Ahead Of Q1 Earnings With $53B Bitcoin Reserve, Analyst Expectations Run High

H.C. Wainwright initiated coverage at ‘Buy’ and a $480 price target earlier this week, citing its aggressive Bitcoin accumulation strategy as grounds for a premium valuation.

Strategy (MSTR) shares rose as much as 1.7%&nbsp;at the opening bell on Monday after the company disclosed it purchased 6,556 additional Bitcoin (BTC) between April 14 and April 20, even as broader markets remained under pressure.The company, formerly known as MicroStrategy and led by Bitcoin advocate Michael Saylor, reported in a Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filing that it spent $555.8 million on the new holdings at an average price of $84,785 per Bitcoin.As of April 19, Strategy holds 538,200 Bitcoin, acquired for a combined cost of $36.5 billion, or approximately $67,766 per coin. It remains the largest corporate holder of Bitcoin by a wide margin.Bitcoin experienced a slight recovery over the weekend, rising above $87,000. The apex cryptocurrency was trading at $86,900 during U.S. market hours on Monday, up 3.4% over the past 24 hours, according to CoinGecko data.The latest purchases were funded through the company’s ongoing at-the-market (ATM) equity programs.&nbsp;Last week, Strategy sold 1.76 million shares of its Class A common stock for roughly $547.7 million. Strategy Grows Bitcoin Holdings With 6,500 BTC Buy, Raises $555 Million Via Stock Sale 

Strategy remains the largest corporate holder of Bitcoin by a wide margin, with 538,200 Bitcoin in its treasury holdings after its latest purchase of the apex cryptocurrency.

Shares of MicroStrategy were down over 4% as markets opened on Monday after the Michael Saylor-owned software enterprise announced its weekly Bitcoin buy, this time of over 5,000 BTC for around $561 million.&nbsp;The company also joined the Nasdaq 100 today.MicroStrategy has been buying Bitcoin every week since Nov. 11. This is the company’s smallest haul thus far in that period, far below the record-breaking acquisition of over 55,000 BTC on Nov. 24 — the company’s largest single purchase to date.Its treasury now holds 444,262 BTC, valued at approximately $42 billion, which accounts for nearly half of its market capitalization.&nbsp;The latest acquisition was funded by share sales under the company's at-the-market program (ATM).
