To keep transaction fees low and the network running indefinitely, Dogecoin features an uncapped supply where new coins are added forever. In a major regulatory milestone in March 2026, a joint SEC and CFTC framework officially classified Dogecoin as a digital commodity, placing it in the same asset category as gold or oil.

The community has organized several major burn events, most notably the December 2024 BURNmas campaign that destroyed 1.69 trillion tokens worth over $50 million. In September 2025, Nasdaq-listed Safety Shot, Inc. formed BONK Holdings LLC and acquired over 2.5% of the circulating supply (valued at $55-63 million), making BONK one of the first memecoins to attract formal corporate treasury adoption. Notable community initiatives include the "Sphere Wif Hat" campaign, which raised nearly $700,000 in USDC in March 2024 to put the mascot on the Las Vegas Sphere. However, after a year of negotiations and delays, organizers officially abandoned the advertisement on March 31, 2025, and initiated a full refund process for donors.  The initial team behind dogwifhat remains anonymous, which is a standard practice within the memecoin sector.
