Polestar To Resume Expansion Into New Markets With France, Says Report: Retail’s Still Skeptical

Swedish EV maker Polestar (PSNY) reported an 84% year-on-year surge in first-quarter revenue and a narrower net loss on Monday.The company <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://media.polestar.com/global/en/media/pressreleases/690154">reported</a> revenue of $608 million, up from $330 million in the corresponding period of 2024, but below an analyst estimate of $677 million, as per Koyfin data.The revenue rise was primarily due to a 76.5% jump in retail sales, supported by newer models, to an estimated 12,304 cars.The company’s net loss in the three months through the end of March fell to $190 million from $276 million in the corresponding period of 2024, driven by gross profit improvement, among other factors.The company’s gross margin improved to 6.8% in the first quarter (Q1) from -7.7% in Q1 2024 due to a growing share of higher margin models.Polestar said the joint venture with Hubei Xingji Meizu Group Co. in China has been terminated, and distribution rights have been transferred to the firm. Polestar Reports Narrower Q1 Losses, Significant Jump In Sales: Retail Turns Bullish

The company reported a 76.5% jump in retail sales and a significant improvement in gross margin during the quarter.

Polestar (PSNY) is recalling 27,816 vehicles in the U.S., citing issues with rear camera image display, U.S. auto safety regulator National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said on Friday.The regulator <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2025/RCAK-25V280-2393.pdf">said</a> the rearview camera image may not display when the vehicle is in reverse, posing risks of a crash. Customers may experience a “Camera is temporarily unavailable” message instead of the rear view when the gear selector is in reverse.As for a fix, the company’s dealers will release an additional software update, free of cost to the customer.The recall population includes model year 2021-2025 Polestar 2 liftback vehicles manufactured between July 2020 and November 2024. The Polestar 2, made in China, is no longer being produced for the U.S. market.Earlier this week, Polestar paused its full-year financial guidance, citing uncertainty around international tariffs and government regulations impacting its business and market dynamics. Polestar Recalls Nearly 28,000 Vehicles In US Over Faulty Rear Camera Image Display: Retail’s Disappointed

The recall population includes model year 2021- 2025 Polestar 2 liftback vehicles manufactured between July 2020 and November 2024.

EV maker Polestar (PSNY) was in the spotlight on Thursday after the company <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://investors.polestar.com/news-releases/news-release-details/polestar-q1-retail-sales-grew-76-compared-same-quarter-last-year">said</a> its retail sales volume in the first quarter rose 76% compared to the corresponding quarter last year.The Swedish company reported retail sales of an estimated 12,304 units, driven by a growing uptake of newer models and a transition to an active-selling model.Polestar’s new CEO Michael Lohscheller said the company is on “the right track and doing the right things.” Lohscheller joined Polestar as its chief executive in October, succeeding Thomas Ingenlath.“With a more active selling model, more retail partners and attractive cars, we are delivering results. At the same time, we are monitoring closely and assessing the volatile geopolitical environment and will adapt as needed,” Lohscheller said.The company currently manufactures cars in the U.S. and China. Shares of the firm surged over 6% on Thursday morning following the development.The appointment follows Yoav Stern's termination as chief executive after he was not re-elected as a director at the company’s 2024 annual general meeting of shareholders on Dec. 6. Shares of shipping and logistic services company Zim Integrated Shipping Services ($ZIM) were trading up nearly 1% (3:49 pm ET) on Tuesday ahead of the company’s third-quarter earnings, with retail sentiment staying bullish.Wall street analysts expect the company to post Earnings Per Share (EPS) of $6.95 on revenue of $2.39 billion. The company missed estimates twice in the last four quarters.Zim will report Q3 earnings after hours on November 20. In the last quarter, it posted $3.08 in EPS, beating Wall Street estimates by over 60%. Its revenues came in at $1.93 billion, 8.6% above estimates.Retail sentiment on the stock has risen to ‘bullish’ (69/100) compared to ‘neutral’ (51/100) a month ago.
