(CRML) ended Friday 35.5% higher after an approval from Greenland’s government solidified its position as the controlling stakeholder in one of the world's largest rare earth deposits.The company’s stock was up 41.61% for the week, the most since January. The stock garnered significant attention from Wall Street analysts as well as retail investors amid the encouraging announcement.<h2 class="st-heading-2">The Tanbreez Buzz</h2>On Friday, Critical Metals confirmed that the Greenland government had approved the transfer of remaining 50.5% stake in the Tanbreez mining project to the company, bringing its total ownership to 92.5%. European Lithium will retain the remaining 7.5% stake.Tanbreez is considered to be among the largest rare earth hard rock deposits in the world. These are key elements used in defence, clean energy, and advanced technology applications. Additionally, the location of the deposits make it possible for year-round direct shipping access, offering a significant logistical advantage.The project covers a 4.7-billion-tonne mineralized rock unit, with an initial 45-million-tonne resource focused on early production. It is also considered a long-term solution for rare earth demand for the next 100 years.Greenland’s rich mineral deposits are a big reason why the U.S. President Donald Trump had previously proposed purchasing Greenland, an autonomous territory within Denmark.“We are now progressing with momentum, supported by advancing technical programs, strong metallurgical results, and engagement with our offtake partners. Tanbreez is no longer a future project — it is a project in development,” said Tony Sage, chairman of the company.<h2 class="st-heading-2">How It Will Impact The Company</h2>Clear Street analyst Tim Moore reportedly said that Tanbreez would help Critical Metals achieve nearly $200 billion in earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization after the first phase of drilling at the site is at 100% capacity.This figure could rise to $1.1 billion in 2033 if the second phase reaches full capacity, the firm said, according to a <a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.barrons.com/articles/critical-minerals-rare-earth-stock-e5b992c9">report</a> from Barron’s. Currently, the company has set target timelines for first ore production in late 2028 to early 2029, with concentrate export targeted for the third quarter of 2029.While the change of control took longer than expected, Moore said that the move marked a crucial step for the company to get final approval from the Greenland government to begin drilling.Clear Street has a ‘Buy’ rating on CRML stock and a price target of $20, indicating an upside potential of nearly 60% from the last close. (NXE) slumped as much as 10% on Friday after Culper Research announced a short position in the Canadian-based uranium exploration and development company.Culper <a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://culperresearch.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/Culper_NXE_2-6-2026.pdf">alleged</a> that the net present value (NPV) of NexGen’s Rook I project is overstated by 43% to 62% and the company is “ultimately an insider enrichment scheme with substantial downside.”It also added that the company’s targeted peak annual uranium production of 29.7M lbs is “impossible to achieve.”<h2 class="st-heading-2">Other Allegations</h2>The Canadian company is focused on developing the Rook I Project in Saskatchewan’s Athabasca basin into the largest, low-cost producing uranium mine globally.According to Culper, Rook I’s claimed C$6.3 billion NPV is underpinned by ultra-high-grade pods discovered a decade ago, by a single contractor, analyzed at a single laboratory.
