Geopolitical tensions in the Middle East are reigniting volatility and pushing investors back toward gold ETFs as they seek safety amid rising global risks.

From crypto to central banks all have been hoarding gold in the light of macroeconomic uncertainties.&nbsp;Donald Trump has added to that pressure and increased the fears of another war after he pressed Iran to negotiate a nuclear deal, who has threatened to retaliate against the U.S. and Israel.&nbsp;On Wednesday, Tether CEO told Reuters that the company plans to allocate 10%-15% of its investment portfolio to physical gold. Several major central banks have already been hoarding more physical gold.&nbsp;"For our own portfolio, it's reasonable that we are going to have around 10% in bitcoin and 10% to 15% in gold," Ardoino said, according to a Reuters report. &nbsp;<h2 class="st-heading-2">Fed Leaves Rate Unchanged</h2>The U.S. Federal Reserve on Wednesday held its benchmark interest rates steady at 3.50% - 3.75% in its first policy meeting of 2026, on the back of encouraging labor market data and stabilizing unemployment rate.The move was widely anticipated by the markets after policymakers delivered three consecutive 25-bps rate cuts in September, October, and December 2025 amid rising inflation and growing unemployment at the time. Gold Down From Record High – Retail Calls It A ‘Buying Opportunity’

Job gains have remained low, and the unemployment rate has shown some signs of stabilization. Gold futures for February deliveries surged more than 4% to $5,290 an ounce.Meanwhile, spot silver (XAG/USD) was up 2.5% at $114.7 an ounce.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Consolidation Post $6,000</h2>Veteran commodities analyst Ole Hansen of Saxo Bank says gold still has room to run, as geopolitical risks have yet to meaningfully hit global growth. With central-bank buying easing and private and institutional inflows taking the lead, he sees prices potentially rising toward $6,000 an ounce before entering a period of consolidation.“For a non-yielding asset such as gold, continued inflows are required to justify ever-higher prices. Momentum could still carry prices towards $6,000 if macro or political risks intensify, but beyond that level, the risk of consolidation rises, rather than an imminent major correction,” Hansen said in a blog post on Wednesday.<h2 class="st-heading-2">FOMC Meet</h2>The Fed’s policy-setting committee convened on January 27 and 28 for its first meeting of 2026, following three quarter-point rate cuts late last year. The rally continued on Monday with silver climbing above $58 per ounce. While there have been two separate pullbacks over the past month, spot prices continue to remain well above the 50-day moving average (50-DMA).At the time of writing, silver futures maturing in March 2026 delivery traded 0.1% lower at $58.64.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Pullback On The Cards?</h2>While silver may continue to outperform, its price action remains volatile, and overbought conditions pose a short-term risk for bullish positions, veteran commodities expert and Head of Commodity Strategy for Saxo Bank, Ole Hansen, wrote in a post on X on Wednesday.<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://x.com/Ole_S_Hansen/status/1996127661463068983"><img src="https://news.stocktwits-cdn.com/Ole_Hansen_png_851796fbbc.webp" alt="Ole Hansen.png"></a>In a report for Saxo Bank, Hansen stated that, as London vault inventories are depleted to meet strong silver demand from the U.S. and India, lease rates have jumped, tightening conditions and adding pressure on traders.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Gold Remains Steady</h2>Spot gold price (XAU/USD) was down marginally at $4,200.3 per ounce on Wednesday morning. The pair has benefited from a weaker dollar and rising expectations of a rate cut this month. Recent comments from top Fed officials, along with weaker post-shutdown economic data, have reinforced market expectations for a rate cut next week.Data from the CME FedWatch tool showed an 89.2% probability of a 25-basis-point rate cut at the December 10 meeting.
