Bitcoin is the world's first decentralized cryptocurrency, created in 2009 by the pseudonymous Satoshi Nakamoto. With a fixed supply cap of 21 million coins and programmatic halvings every four years that reduce miner rewards, Bitcoin is designed as a deflationary digital asset often called "digital gold." Its value stems from solving the double-spending problem without trusted intermediaries, creating the first truly scarce digital asset with censorship resistance and permissionless access that no government, corporation, or individual can control.  Bitcoin operates as a decentralized peer-to-peer network where transactions are recorded on a public ledger called the blockchain, distributed across thousands of computers globally. Transactions are grouped into blocks added approximately every 10 minutes through mining, where specialized computers compete to solve complex mathematical puzzles.   Bitcoin has achieved mainstream adoption through multiple vectors. The January 2024 SEC approval of 11 spot Bitcoin ETFs opened Bitcoin investment to traditional finance participants, and corporations like Strategy (formerly MicroStrategy) are using Bitcoin as a treasury reserve asset to protect against currency debasement, offering MSTR holders amplified exposure to Bitcoin.   The Bitcoin ecosystem continues to evolve with innovations like Ordinals, which emerged in January 2023 to enable NFT-like functionality directly on Bitcoin, and BRC-20 tokens, an experimental standard for creating fungible tokens using Ordinal inscriptions. BTCFi (Bitcoin Finance) represents emerging financial applications extending beyond Bitcoin's traditional role, with protocols like Babylon allowing Bitcoin holders to stake BTC to secure Proof of Stake chains.

Ripple is the catchall name for the cryptocurrency platform, the transactional protocol for which is actually XRP, in the same fashion as Ethereum is the name for the platform that facilitates trades in Ether. Like other cryptocurrencies, Ripple is built atop the idea of a distributed ledger network which requires various parties to participate in validating transactions, rather than any singular centralized authority. That facilitates transactions all over the world, and transfer fees are far cheaper than the likes of bitcoin. Unlike other cryptocurrencies, XRP transfers are effectively immediate, requiring no typical confirmation time.  Ripple was originally founded by a single company, Ripple Labs, and continues to be backed by it, rather than the larger network of developers that continue bitcoin’s development. It also doesn’t have a fluctuating amount of its currency in existence. Where bitcoin has a continually growing pool with an eventual maximum, and Ethereum theoretically has no limit, Ripple was created with all of its 100 billion XRP tokens right out of the gate. That number is maintained with no mining and most of the tokens are owned and held by Ripple Labs itself — around 60 billion at the latest count.  Even at the recently reduced value of around half a dollar per XRP, that means Ripple Labs is currently sitting on around $20 billion worth of the cryptocurrency (note: Ripple’s price crashed hard recently, and may be worth far less than $60 billion by time you read this). It holds 55 billion XRP in an escrow account, which allows it to sell up to a billion per month if it so chooses in order to fund new projects and acquisitions. Selling such an amount would likely have a drastic effect on the cryptocurrency’s value, and isn’t something Ripple Labs plans to do anytime soon.  In actuality, Ripple Labs is looking to leverage the technology behind XRP to allow for faster banking transactions around the world. While Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies are built on the idea of separating financial transactions from the financial organizations of traditional currencies, Ripple is almost the opposite in every sense. All of these factors will benefit gold. Yardeni noted that basic metals, which are closely tied to manufacturing, have lagged significantly.While central bank buying helped fuel gold’s breakout above $2,000 an ounce in early 2024, the surge in other precious metals points to broader investor unease. The firm warned that an overly stimulative mix of U.S. monetary and fiscal policy could pressure bond yields, prompting it to raise its year-end 2026 gold target to $6,000 an ounce.In an interview with CNBC-TV18 on Monday, Yardeni said that gold could climb up to $10,000 by the end of 2029.Earlier this month, J.P. Morgan Global Research forecast prices to average $5,055 an ounce by the final quarter of 2026, rising toward $5,400 an ounce by the end of 2027.&nbsp;“While this rally in gold has not, and will not, be linear, we believe the trends driving this rebasing higher in gold prices are not exhausted. The long-term trend of official reserve and investor diversification into gold has further to run. We expect gold demand to push prices toward $5,000/oz by year-end 2026,” said Natasha Kaneva, head of Global Commodities Strategy at J.P. Morgan.&nbsp;<h2 class="st-heading-2">How Have The ETFs Done?</h2><a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/GLD">SPDR Gold</a> (GLD) was up around 1% in premarket trading on Tuesday. It is on track to open at an all-time high.Retail sentiment on Stocktwits remained ‘bullish’ over the past 24 hours, amid ‘extremely high’ message volumes. Silver has hit fresh peaks in seven of the last 10 sessions. Daan Struyven, co-head of global commodities research at Goldman Sachs, told Forbes on Thursday that silver prices are likely to remain highly volatile as long as uncertainty over U.S. tariffs persists. Struyven also pointed to a physical squeeze in the London silver market, with inventories low as metal is being shipped to the U.S. amid tariff concerns.He said that many of the factors lifting gold, such as expectations of lower interest rates, also help silver by boosting investor demand. The pair has benefited from a weaker dollar and rising expectations of a rate cut this month. Recent comments from top Fed officials, along with weaker post-shutdown economic data, have reinforced market expectations for a rate cut next week.Data from the CME FedWatch tool showed an 89.2% probability of a 25-basis-point rate cut at the December 10 meeting.
