Ripple is the catchall name for the cryptocurrency platform, the transactional protocol for which is actually XRP, in the same fashion as Ethereum is the name for the platform that facilitates trades in Ether. Like other cryptocurrencies, Ripple is built atop the idea of a distributed ledger network which requires various parties to participate in validating transactions, rather than any singular centralized authority. That facilitates transactions all over the world, and transfer fees are far cheaper than the likes of bitcoin. Unlike other cryptocurrencies, XRP transfers are effectively immediate, requiring no typical confirmation time.  Ripple was originally founded by a single company, Ripple Labs, and continues to be backed by it, rather than the larger network of developers that continue bitcoin’s development. It also doesn’t have a fluctuating amount of its currency in existence. Where bitcoin has a continually growing pool with an eventual maximum, and Ethereum theoretically has no limit, Ripple was created with all of its 100 billion XRP tokens right out of the gate. That number is maintained with no mining and most of the tokens are owned and held by Ripple Labs itself — around 60 billion at the latest count.  Even at the recently reduced value of around half a dollar per XRP, that means Ripple Labs is currently sitting on around $20 billion worth of the cryptocurrency (note: Ripple’s price crashed hard recently, and may be worth far less than $60 billion by time you read this). It holds 55 billion XRP in an escrow account, which allows it to sell up to a billion per month if it so chooses in order to fund new projects and acquisitions. Selling such an amount would likely have a drastic effect on the cryptocurrency’s value, and isn’t something Ripple Labs plans to do anytime soon.  In actuality, Ripple Labs is looking to leverage the technology behind XRP to allow for faster banking transactions around the world. While Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies are built on the idea of separating financial transactions from the financial organizations of traditional currencies, Ripple is almost the opposite in every sense. (AVGO) stock closed Wednesday’s session at a record high as investors bet on the chipmaker’s artificial intelligence (AI) opportunity. With Wednesday’s 3%+ gain,&nbsp;the stock has erased all losses from the tech-led sell-off that began in late October.Year-to-date,&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/AVGO">Broadcom stock</a> has gained nearly 73%.&nbsp;The stock bottomed last Friday after a month-long downtrend and has since been making higher highs.<img src="https://news.stocktwits-cdn.com/AVGO_1_year_chart_png_98cf80a51f.webp" alt="AVGO 1-year chart.png">Source: Koyfin<h2 class="st-heading-2">The Google Catalyst</h2>Broadcom’s stock has closed higher in all three sessions this week. While the broader market’s turnaround has been healthy for the stock, the main thrust came from a report that said Alphabet was in discussions with Meta and other companies to sell its AI chips, called Tensor Processing Units (TPUs).So, how Does That Benefit Broadcom?Broadcom is Google's design partner for TPUs and also supplies front-end networking switches. While Google designs the tensor cores, Broadcom helps integrate memory interfaces, high-speed I/O, power management, and packaging technology with the cores.When reports of Google's TPU plans began circulating,&nbsp;social media chatter also highlighted Meta’s long-standing connection with Broadcom CEO Hock Tan. Broadcom CEO Tan has been serving on Meta's board since 2006 and may have had a say in the Mark Zuckerberg-led company's consideration of Google.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Analysts Weigh In</h2>Morgan Stanley analyst Joseph Moore said in a note released earlier this week that Broadcom produced about 1.8 million TPUs for Google in 2025, the majority of which were used internally. He expects output to climb to roughly 3 million by 2027.Moore believes that the expanding use of TPU is a boost for Broadcom. “But when it comes to broader adoption by other customers, the implications are less clear.”Also this week, Goldman Sachs analyst James Schneider raised his price target for Broadcom to $435 from $380 and maintained a Buy rating, according to the summary of the note on the Fly. (GFS) said late Monday that it has acquired Advanced Micro Foundry (AMF), a silicon photonics foundry based in Singapore.Despite the 35% year-to-date (YTD) surge by the&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/SOXQ">Invesco PHLX Semiconductor ETF (SOXQ)</a>,&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/GFS">GlobalFoundries stock</a> has fallen by 23%.<h2 class="st-heading-2">The AMF Deal</h2>GlobalFoundries said the AMF buy marks a “pivotal step” in its strategy to advance innovation and its leadership in silicon photonics. “This acquisition will expand GF’s silicon photonics technology portfolio, production capacity and research and development in Singapore, complementing its existing technology capabilities in the U.S. and unlocking new market opportunities with a broader set of datacenter and communication technologies.”The company noted that, as “traditional copper connections reach their physical limits, silicon photonics has emerged as a breakthrough technology that uses light to transfer data between and within data centers, delivering ultra-fast, energy-efficient performance.”The U.S. company now plans to establish a silicon photonic R&amp;D center of excellence in Singapore, partnering with Singapore’s Agency for Science, Technology and Research, focusing on next-generation materials for ultra-fast data transfer at 400Gbps speed.In a presentation posted on GlobalFoundries’ website, the company said artificial intelligence (AI) will likely accelerate the adoption of silicon photonics. Accordingly, it estimates the silicon photonics wafer serviceable addressable market (SAM) to grow by more than 800% between 2026 and 2032, reaching $6.5 billion.
