Ethereum is a global, open-source platform for decentralized applications. In other words, it is a decentralized blockchain platform that enables developers to build and deploy smart contracts and applications without central authority control. Unlike Bitcoin, which primarily functions as digital currency, Ethereum operates as a programmable global computer where developers can create any type of decentralized service.   The platform hosts over $14 billion in DeFi applications with hundreds of thousands of active users across financial protocols, NFT marketplaces, and gaming platforms. Its transition to Proof of Stake in September 2022 reduced energy consumption by over 99%, addressing environmental concerns while strengthening network security.  The network operates through thousands of independent validator nodes that process transactions and execute smart contracts on the Ethereum Virtual Machine. Smart contracts are self-executing programs written in Solidity that automatically carry out agreements when conditions are met, eliminating intermediaries like banks or brokers.   Validators stake ETH as collateral to propose and validate blocks, earning rewards for honest participation while facing penalties for malicious behavior. The EIP-1559 upgrade introduced a dynamic base fee mechanism that burns ETH with each transaction, creating deflationary pressure during high network activity when more ETH is burned than issued to validators.  Vitalik Buterin proposed Ethereum in 2013, but seven co-founders helped build it, including Gavin Wood who created Solidity and the EVM technical specification, and Joseph Lubin who founded ConsenSys. The project launched in July 2015 after raising over $18 million through crowdfunding, quickly becoming the largest blockchain developer community. Major milestones include the 2020 Beacon Chain launch, the 2021 London hard fork implementing fee burning, and the 2022 Merge to Proof of Stake.   Ether (ETH) serves multiple functions: paying transaction fees (gas), staking to secure the network and earn 3-5% annual yields, serving as collateral in DeFi protocols, and purchasing NFTs and digital assets. The asset is increasingly adopted by traditional institutions, with publicly traded companies adding ETH to corporate treasuries to generate staking yields while maintaining blockchain exposure, and in 2024, the SEC approved spot Ethereum ETFs, allowing traditional investors to gain exposure through conventional brokerage accounts.  Ethereum's roadmap focuses on dramatically increasing transaction capacity to over 100,000 per second, reducing confirmation times, and enhancing decentralization while maintaining security against future threats like quantum computing.

(BTBT) reported on Tuesday that the firm held roughly 155,444 Ethereum (ETH), valued at $327 million, with an average acquisition price of $3,045 at the end of last month.&nbsp;Out of the company’s total holdings, about 62% of its holdings, which amounts to 96,322 ETH, remained staked during the time, while it reduced its staked position in March to give management greater flexibility in handling its Ethereum treasury.&nbsp;The firm stated that the proceeds could be used for “other yield opportunities and other capital allocation.”&nbsp;It added that staking operations generated nearly 291.3 ETH in rewards, yielding about 2.9% annually.&nbsp;In addition to its crypto treasury, Bit Digital maintained a majority ownership stake in WhiteFiber (WYFI), an AI infrastructure and high-performance computing (HPC) provider. The firm said it roughly holds 27 million shares of WhiteFiber, valued at over $322 million.<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/BTBT">BTBT's stock</a> was down over 4% on morning trade. Bit Digital Cuts ETH Staking To Boost Treasury Flexibility, Holds $322 Million In WYFI Shares

Valour continued to scale its global ETP platform with more than 100 listed products and strong inflows throughout the year. While the firm manages more than $7 trillion in assets and holds a significant share of crypto ETP flows, it has been cautious on tokenization for publicly traded equities.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Crypto Exchanges Eye U.S. Stock Trading</h2>Coinbase is seeking SEC approval to launch blockchain-based tokenized stocks, positioning itself to compete directly with retail brokerages on lower costs.&nbsp;Chief Legal Officer Paul Grewal said in June earlier this year that the initiative is a “huge priority,” following the rollout of Kraken’s xStocks product. Bit Digital (BTBT) announced on Wednesday that it has acquired an additional 31,057 Ethereum (ETH) tokens, bringing its total holdings to more than 150,000 tokens.The company said the latest purchase was funded with net proceeds from a recently completed $150 million convertible note offering. The notes carried an initial conversion price of $4.16 per share, representing an 8.2% premium to the company’s estimated mNAV at the time of pricing.<a href="http://stocktwits.com/symbol/ETH.X">Ethereum’s price</a> was trading at around $4,500 in early morning trade after falling nearly 5% in the last 24 hours. This puts the value of Bit Digital’s 150,244 ETH holdings at around $673 million.<a href="http://stocktwits.com/symbol/BTBT">BTBT’s stock</a> rose 1.6% in pre-market trade. However, retail sentiment around the shares on Stocktwits dipped to ‘bullish’ from ‘extremely bullish’ over the past day as chatter remained at ‘high’ levels.&nbsp;“The structure of our convertible notes allowed us to raise capital at a premium to mNAV, and we have deployed those proceeds directly into ETH,” Bit Digital CEO Sam Tabar said. “We are focused on expanding our Ethereum treasury in a cost-effective manner, while benefiting from the growth of our majority stake in WhiteFiber.”WhiteFiber (WYFI), Bit Digital’s AI infrastructure and high-performance computing subsidiary, is central to the company’s evolving strategy. The firm has shifted from a Bitcoin-focused mining operation to a dual approach, emphasizing Ethereum staking and AI compute services like most other companies in the space. Data center builder and operator HIVE Digital Technologies (HIVE) has reached a major breakthrough in its global Bitcoin mining operations, with a substantial performance increase in May 2025.&nbsp;The company reported that it now operates with a mining capacity surpassing 10 Exahash per second (EH/s), an increase from 6 EH/s at the end of the prior quarter.This growth, which includes a 58% surge in peak hashrate from April to May, was primarily driven by the activation of HIVE’s new 100-megawatt hydro-powered facility in Paraguay.&nbsp;The company said that the plant played a critical role in its push for energy-efficient and sustainable Bitcoin mining.HIVE utilizes 100% hydroelectric power in its data centers, which supports both crypto mining and artificial intelligence workloads.&nbsp;The firm is aiming to reach a hashrate of 11.5 EH/s by the end of June, keeping it on pace for its ambitious 25 EH/s target by the fourth quarter of 2025.In May, the company mined 139 Bitcoin, averaging about 4.5 BTC per day.
