Back in 2011, long before “crypto Twitter”, NFTs, or VC-backed chains existed, users of the BitcoinTalk forum came up with a new currency - not to launch a network, but to make fun of btc.... and so: The first memecoin/memecurrency was born.  On May 23, 2011, a Something Awful poster cracked, “Has anyone called them buttcoins yet?”. It was sophomoric and perfect. Within weeks the gag metastasized into Buttcoin.org, a parody blog that described a “peer to peer butt” economy while cataloging mining fiascos, exchange blowups, and MLM-adjacent “innovations”.

Validators stake ETH as collateral to propose and validate blocks, earning rewards for honest participation while facing penalties for malicious behavior. The EIP-1559 upgrade introduced a dynamic base fee mechanism that burns ETH with each transaction, creating deflationary pressure during high network activity when more ETH is burned than issued to validators.  Vitalik Buterin proposed Ethereum in 2013, but seven co-founders helped build it, including Gavin Wood who created Solidity and the EVM technical specification, and Joseph Lubin who founded ConsenSys. The project launched in July 2015 after raising over $18 million through crowdfunding, quickly becoming the largest blockchain developer community. Major milestones include the 2020 Beacon Chain launch, the 2021 London hard fork implementing fee burning, and the 2022 Merge to Proof of Stake.   Ether (ETH) serves multiple functions: paying transaction fees (gas), staking to secure the network and earn 3-5% annual yields, serving as collateral in DeFi protocols, and purchasing NFTs and digital assets. The asset is increasingly adopted by traditional institutions, with publicly traded companies adding ETH to corporate treasuries to generate staking yields while maintaining blockchain exposure, and in 2024, the SEC approved spot Ethereum ETFs, allowing traditional investors to gain exposure through conventional brokerage accounts.  Ethereum's roadmap focuses on dramatically increasing transaction capacity to over 100,000 per second, reducing confirmation times, and enhancing decentralization while maintaining security against future threats like quantum computing.

The data from the trial was published in the The New England Journal of Medicine.Sickle cell disease (SCD) is a group of inherited blood disorders caused by a genetic mutation leading to abnormal hemoglobin, which causes red blood cells to become rigid, sickle-shaped, and prone to breaking down. SCD with severe vaso-occlusive crises (VOC) involves sickle-shaped red blood cells blocking blood flow, causing intense, often bone-deep pain, ischemia, and organ damage.“Based on the totality of data generated to date from the BEACON study and the optimized treatment and manufacturing process, we believe risto-cel has the potential to be best-in-class. The regulator approved Empaveli in 2025 as the first treatment for C3 glomerulopathy (C3G) or primary immune complex membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis (IC-MPGN) in patients aged 12 years and older.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Biogen Highlights Revenue, Earnings Boost From Apellis Acquisition</h2>Biogen stated that Empaveli and Syfovre will boost its topline immediately, noting that these two treatments achieved combined net sales of $689 million in 2025 and expect them to grow in the mid-to-high teens at least through 2028.“Consistent with our strategy, this acquisition immediately advances Biogen’s ongoing transformation. The addition of Apellis expands our growth portfolio in immunology and rare disease with two approved, best-in-class medicines that complement our existing portfolio and bolsters our near-and long-term growth potential,” said Biogen CEO Christopher A. Viehbacher.The company added that the Apellis acquisition is expected to be increasingly accretive to Biogen’s diluted earnings per share (EPS) starting in 2027. (IBRX) climbed more than 2% overnight early Tuesday after founder Patrick Soon-Shiong teased balance sheet “strengthening” and global expansion plans, as short sellers stepped back amid strong momentum for Anktiva, its lead immunotherapy.<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/IBRX">IBRX stock</a> plunged nearly 10% on Monday, but is on track to post its best quarter in about six years. Shares have surged 237% so far this year, outperforming the SPDR S&amp;P Biotech ETF (XBI), which has dipped nearly 3% over the same period.&nbsp;&nbsp;<h2 class="st-heading-2">Founder Teases Balance Sheet Strengthening&nbsp;</h2>Soon-Shiong&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://x.com/DrPatrick/status/2038800665481552070">took to X</a> on Tuesday and said, “Strengthening the balance sheet. Recharging for global expansion. Stay tuned.”The development comes&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/news-articles/markets/equity/ibrx-stock-breakout-quarter-anektiva-long-covid-europe-expansion/cZERi1sRIZL">just a day</a> after Soon-Shiong signaled the company’s European expansion plans, saying he had been invited by a European health minister to discuss advancing “immunotherapy 2.0.” The effort is part of a broader push to expand natural killer cell- and CD8 T-cell-based therapies, which are immune treatments that activate the body’s virus- and cancer-fighting cells, alongside Anktiva’s global rollout.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Short Bets Retreat From Highs</h2>Meanwhile, short interest in IBRX has been steadily declining from&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/news-articles/markets/equity/ibrx-stock-became-high-stakes-showdown-between-shorts-and-retail-bulls/cZRjSn9R4w4">record highs</a> hit in mid-February, as sentiment improved following regulatory approvals and continued expansion of Anktiva across new indications and geographies.Short positioning rose to 13.7% of the free float between Feb.13 and Feb.19, according to Koyfin data, as investors awaited a final decision from the European Commission on approval of the therapy for BCG-unresponsive non-muscle invasive bladder cancer carcinoma in situ with or without papillary tumors.The uncertainty eased later in February after the European Commission granted conditional marketing authorization across 27 European Union member states plus Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway, expanding Anktiva’s reach to 33 countries globally, including the U.S.Short interest declined to 13.1% by Feb. 27, marking its first drop since October 2025, and has since eased further to around 12.9%. The drop followed a slew of developments supporting the therapy’s outlook beyond its initial bladder cancer indication. The study also tested a different dosing schedule (every 8 weeks) versus placebo and examined other important outcomes.The company stated that Elegrobart reduced eye bulging by about 54% in the four-week regimen and by 63% in the eight-week regimen, compared with roughly 18% on placebo.However, Elegrobart showed only a slight improvement over placebo in the Clinical Activity Score (CAS), a measure of inflammation and disease activity.Viridian’s results showed that the CAS reduction to 0 or 1 was 57% in the four-week regimen and 69% in the eight-week regimen, compared with 50% in the placebo group.The company said that all complaints of adverse events in both regimens were reports of tinnitus, none of which were associated with hearing reduction.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Viridian Says Elegrobart On Track For BLA Submission In 2027</h2>The company stated that topline results from REVEAL-2, the second Phase 3 trial evaluating Elegrobart in patients with chronic thyroid eye disease, are expected in the second quarter (Q2) of 2026.Following this, Viridian plans to submit a Biologics License Application (BLA) to the U.S. FDA in Q1 2027.
