Litecoin is a peer-to-peer cryptocurrency created by Charlie Lee. It was created based on the Bitcoin protocol but differs in terms of the hashing algorithm used. Litecoin uses the memory intensive Scrypt proof of work mining algorithm. Scrypt allows consumer-grade hardware such as GPU to mine those coins.  Why Litecoin? Litecoin is a cryptocurrency that has evolved from Bitcoin after its own popularity in the industry, this alternative, or ‘altcoin’ has emerged to allow investors to diversify their digital currency package, according to Investopedia. Litecoin is one of the most prominent altcoins and was created by former Google employee and Director of Engineering at Coinbase, Charlie Lee. Litecoin was the first to alter Bitcoin and the most significant difference is that it takes 2.5 minutes for Litecoin to generate a block, or transaction, in comparison to Bitcoin's 10 minutes.  ‘While this matters little to traders, miners who use hardware to run Bitcoin's network cannot switch over to Litecoin. This keeps bigger mining conglomerates away from Litecoin because they cannot easily optimize their profits by swapping to another coin, contributing to a more decentralized experience. Litecoin also has bigger blocks, and more coins in circulation, making it more affordable and swift when transacting,’ Investopedia explained.  As explained above, Litecoin can transact a lot faster than Bitcoin, but there are also a number of other characteristics that investors need to know before trading. Litecoin can handle higher volumes of transactions because of the capability of transacting faster and if Bitcoin attempted to transact on the scale of its altcoin, a code update would be needed. However, Litecoin’s blocks would be larger, but with more ‘orphaned blocks'. The faster block time of litecoin reduces the risk of double spending attacks - this is theoretical in the case of both networks having the same hashing power.  Litecoin Technical Details: The transaction confirmation time taken for Litecoin is about 2.5 minutes on average (as compared to Bitcoin's 10 minutes). The Litecoin network is scheduled to cap at 84 million currency units.   Litecoin has inspired many other popular alternative currencies (eg. Dogecoin) because of its Scrypt hashing algorithm in order to prevent ASIC miners from mining those coins. However it is said that by the end of this year, Scrypt ASIC will enter the mass market.

But now there seems to be a shakeup in the top echelons of Apple’s leadership.&nbsp;Just this week, as many as four key C-suite executives have been confirmed to leave. Is Apple no longer a cool place to work? Or is it a signal that Apple’s future hasn’t offered these executives any conviction?<h2 class="st-heading-2">Apple’s Leadership Flux</h2>The week began with Apple<a href="https://stocktwits.com/news-articles/markets/equity/hey-siri-is-apple-done-sleeping-on-ai/cLIaWenRE0i">&nbsp;confirming</a> that its artificial intelligence (AI) chief, John Giannandrea, would retire after nearly seven years at the company. Investors took the move in their stride as <a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/AAPL">Apple’s stock</a> ended Monday’s session at a fresh record of $283.10. Apparently, they were excited about the new hire, Amar Subramanya — an ex-Microsoft executive.Deepwater Asset Management Managing Partner Gene Munster saw Giannandrea’s retirement and Subramanya’s appointment as good news for Apple, signaling CEO Tim Cook’s intention to have serious AI features.After rumors that Alan Dye, Apple’s long-serving head of user interface (UI) design — most recently behind the "Liquid Glass" rollout — was leaving the company circulated, Meta’s Mark Zuckerberg confirmed the move on Thread. He also stated that Billy Sorrentino, who served as Senior Director of the Apple Design Team for a decade, has joined Meta.&nbsp;The mandate for these executives — “elevate design within Meta, and pull together a talented group with a combination of craft, creative vision, systems thinking, and deep experience building iconic products that bridge hardware and software.”&nbsp;There have also been executive moves in staff functions. Apple released a statement on Thursday that Kate Adams, who has served as General Counsel since 2017, will step down and be replaced by Jennifer Newstead, effective March 1, 2026. Incidentally, Newstead is poached from Meta, where she currently serves as the chief legal officer. Apple’s VP for Environment, Policy and Social Initiatives, Lisa Jackson, will also retire in January.&nbsp;<h2 class="st-heading-2">Was Jony Ive The First Trigger?</h2>The design team at Apple, behind iconic products that deliver an excellent user experience — one of their key selling points — has been whittled down since its legendary Chief Design Officer, Jony Ive, left Apple in 2019. He quit to start his own venture, LoveForm, but continued to work with Apple as a client until mid-2022. The core of the design team left along with him for his venture. Ive has since forged a partnership with Sam Altman’s OpenAI to create a palm-sized device without a screen that can take audio and visual cues from the physical environment and respond to users’ requests.&nbsp;In July, Meta hired AI foundation model chief Ruoming Pang, absorbing him into its newly set-up Superintelligence Group, reportedly at a jaw-dropping annual compensation of $200 million.&nbsp;<h2 class="st-heading-2">Losing The Midas Touch?</h2>Ever since the baton passed to Cook, hardware design hasn’t undergone any radical changes, leaving a large chunk of investors and users fuming. Everyone — even&nbsp;the loosely connected&nbsp;— rushed onto the AI bandwagon. Apple, though, held back. The company&nbsp;did make its move, but it remained a cautious adopter.That hesitation turned out to be a blessing in disguise last month as skepticism around AI grew. The Siri personal digital assistant (PDA), launched in 2011, was Apple’s first brush with AI, but rivals now have far superior versions of the same. The company <a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.apple.com/in/newsroom/2018/12/john-giannandrea-named-to-apples-executive-team/">poached</a> Google executive John Giannandrea as its AI head as early as 2018. At Google, Giannandrea was leading Search and AI. When&nbsp;Apple roped him in, top management&nbsp;hoped there would soon be an integrated approach to crack the AI code, but it was not to be. Other tech companies doubled down on their AI efforts, launching breakthrough products and services, but Apple had to be content with rolling out basic AI features.The Tim Cook-led company unveiled its version of AI, dubbed Apple Intelligence, in June 2024 during the year’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) as a built-in feature of iOS 18, iPadOS 19, and macOS Sequoia. It began rolling out AI features in its flagship product, iPhones, in late 2024,&nbsp;but these&nbsp;were considered very basic compared to the progress peers had made.A few factors explain the lag. In China, the company is teaming with Alibaba to roll out its AI features.&nbsp;According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is close to announcing a multi-billion-dollar deal to integrate Google’s Gemini large-language model (LLM) for the overhaul of Siri. Rumors&nbsp;of Apple buying Perplexity also circulated at one point.&nbsp;On Apple’s fourth-quarter earnings call, when Apple was asked about capital expenditure on data centers, CFO Kevan Parekh said, “I don't see us moving away from this hybrid model where we leverage both first-party capacity as well as leverage third-party capacity.”<h2 class="st-heading-2">Apple's Massive Consumer AI Opportunity</h2>Apple has a massive installed base of active devices, including iPhones. iPhone sales growth has stagnated due to a tepid demand outlook amid macroeconomic travails, the company's travails in China amid the country's standoff with the U.S., and the lack of meaningful upgrades. "The market's expansion is fueled by rising consumer demand for personalized, efficient, and intuitive solutions that streamline tasks and improve convenience," the firm said.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Is Apple Remedying Its Pitfall?</h2>After a long delay, Apple could be closing in on the launch of its AI-powered Siri as early as next year, giving a thrust to all its hardware products.After Giannandrea's eight-year stint failed to yield the desired results, the company is looking elsewhere to spearhead its AI efforts. The company announced Monday that the executive will step down as SVP of Machine Learning and AI strategy after a transition period and named Microsoft's AI chief, Amar Subramanya, as his replacement. The new hire, while reporting to SVP, Software Engineer Craig Federighi, will lead critical areas, including Apple Foundation Models, ML research, and AI Safety and Evaluation.Subramanya's LinkedIn profile shows he has a doctoral degree from the University of Washington. After a 16-year stint at Google, he joined Microsoft as Corporate VP, AI, in July this year.Commenting on the new hire, Cook said, "AI has long been central to Apple's strategy, and we are pleased to welcome Amar to Craig's leadership team and to bring his extraordinary AI expertise to Apple." The law has been enforced since last year.The tech giant has sought to have the law declared illegal. In the 545-page court filing, Apple said its maximum penalty exposure for the three fiscal years through 2024 would be around $38 billion under the new law and assuming a 10% penalty rate.&nbsp;The company said the move was to “avoid retrospective imposition of penalty against them.” It pointed to a precedent in which CCI’s new rule was applied retrospectively to another company for a violation committed a decade earlier.Apple also contended that it is a relatively minor player in the Indian market compared to Google’s Android.Apple has been locked in an antitrust battle with companies such as Match regarding alleged “abusive conduct” on the App Store. The aggrieved parties have pending complaints with the CCI regarding this.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Why It’s Important</h2>India has now become a key market for Apple after the U.S.-China standoff forced the company to diversify its supply chain away from China actively. To sidestep hefty Trump tariffs, the company began assembling nearly all of its U.S.-bound iPhones in India. Given the expanding penetration, India is also a key focus market for Cupertino.Apple was forced to tweak its App Store rules in the European Union (EU) earlier this year amid regulatory pressure. It now allows developers in the EU to link to external payments to avoid fines beyond the 500-million-euro fine it has been slapped with.
