Ripple is the catchall name for the cryptocurrency platform, the transactional protocol for which is actually XRP, in the same fashion as Ethereum is the name for the platform that facilitates trades in Ether. Like other cryptocurrencies, Ripple is built atop the idea of a distributed ledger network which requires various parties to participate in validating transactions, rather than any singular centralized authority. That facilitates transactions all over the world, and transfer fees are far cheaper than the likes of bitcoin. Unlike other cryptocurrencies, XRP transfers are effectively immediate, requiring no typical confirmation time.  Ripple was originally founded by a single company, Ripple Labs, and continues to be backed by it, rather than the larger network of developers that continue bitcoin’s development. It also doesn’t have a fluctuating amount of its currency in existence. Where bitcoin has a continually growing pool with an eventual maximum, and Ethereum theoretically has no limit, Ripple was created with all of its 100 billion XRP tokens right out of the gate. That number is maintained with no mining and most of the tokens are owned and held by Ripple Labs itself — around 60 billion at the latest count.  Even at the recently reduced value of around half a dollar per XRP, that means Ripple Labs is currently sitting on around $20 billion worth of the cryptocurrency (note: Ripple’s price crashed hard recently, and may be worth far less than $60 billion by time you read this). It holds 55 billion XRP in an escrow account, which allows it to sell up to a billion per month if it so chooses in order to fund new projects and acquisitions. Selling such an amount would likely have a drastic effect on the cryptocurrency’s value, and isn’t something Ripple Labs plans to do anytime soon.  In actuality, Ripple Labs is looking to leverage the technology behind XRP to allow for faster banking transactions around the world. While Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies are built on the idea of separating financial transactions from the financial organizations of traditional currencies, Ripple is almost the opposite in every sense. (APH) reportedly close to announcing&nbsp;an agreement to acquire the broadband connectivity and cable solutions (CCS) business of communication equipment maker CommScope (COMM).In overnight trading,&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/COMM">CommScope stock</a> jumped 22%, while&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/APH">Amphenol stock</a> edged down 0.30%.A Wall Street Journal report, citing people familiar with the matter,&nbsp;<a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.wsj.com/business/deals/amphenol-nears-big-broadband-deal-in-ai-boom-3909b0df">stated that</a> the rumored transaction, valued at approximately $10.5 billion, including debt, would be completed as early as Monday.The Journal said big strategics and private-equity firms pursued CommScope’s CCS business. The company is scheduled to report its quarterly results on Thursday before the market opens.In the first quarter that ended March 31, the CCS segment contributed $724.1 million to CommScope’s topline, accounting for 65% of the total revenue. The segment’s revenue grew 20% year over year (YoY).The CCS business provides network access, cable headend, and passive optical network (PON) technologies&nbsp;to telecommunication companies, as well as cable companies, and offers data center connectivity for cloud/hyperscalers. It also brings gigabit broadband (cable, IPTV, OTT) to homes and businesses worldwide.CommScope’s decision to offload its top revenue contributor may have been motivated by the need to reduce its heavy debt pile. At the end of the first quarter, the company’s balance sheet showed long-term debt of $7.25 billion, and its second-quarter interest expense was $173.7 million.In early February, CommScope completed the divestment of its outdoor wireless networks and distributed antenna systems businesses to Amphenol in a deal valued at more than $2 billion.The Journal stated that the CCS deal,&nbsp;if completed, will be Amphenol's largest&nbsp;to date. Telecommunications firm AT&amp;T Inc.(T) has reached a $177 million preliminary settlement to put to rest a series of lawsuits stemming from data breaches that compromised the personal information of millions of its customers across the United States.A Reuters report said the agreement was deemed fair and reasonable by U.S. District Judge Ada Brown during a hearing on Friday in Dallas federal court, where the class-action lawsuit was being litigated.&nbsp;Depending on the specific breach and impact, affected customers may receive up to $2,500 or $5,000 for documented losses directly connected to the incidents.&nbsp;One of the incidents led to unauthorized downloads of approximately 109 million accounts, including call and text log data from 2022. This information was reportedly extracted from AT&amp;T’s cloud system managed via Snowflake Inc. (SNOW).&nbsp;The breach impacted a six-month timeframe, compromising nearly the entire customer base.In March 2024, AT&amp;T announced that it was investigating a data set discovered on the dark web. Initial findings indicated the data included information on 7.6 million current and over 65 million past customers.&nbsp;The compromised data appeared to predate 2020, likely originating from 2019 or earlier. Judge Reportedly Approves AT&T’s $177M Data Breach Settlement, But Retail Stays Cautious

(T) confirmed longstanding rumors and agreed to acquire Lumen Technologies, Inc.’s (LUMN) consumer fiber business for $5.75 billion in cash.Lumen’s enterprise fiber business and consumer copper-based customers are not part of the agreement.The transaction price was&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/news-articles/markets/equity/lumen-analysts-say-competing-offers-likely-after-rumored-at-and-t-deal/chJGvmoRb3f">higher</a> than the $5.5 billion price speculated in late March but lower than the $6 billion expected in December.&nbsp;AT&amp;T Chair and CEO John Stankey said, “This deal with Lumen represents a significant investment in U.S. connectivity infrastructure that will create jobs and spur economic activity in numerous regions and major metro areas across 11 states.”The company hopes to double the availability of AT&amp;T Fiber by the end of 2030.Specifically, the company sees AT&amp;T Fiber&nbsp;expanding into major metro areas like Denver, Las Vegas, Minneapolis-St. Paul, Orlando, Phoenix, Portland, Salt Lake City, and Seattle, as well as additional geographies.AT&amp;T said the mass-market fiber assets included in the deal totaled about 1 million fiber subscribers across more than 4 million fiber locations.&nbsp;The telecom major plans to hold the acquired fiber network assets in a new, fully-owned subsidiary. After closing the deal, expected around in the first half of 2026, AT&amp;T plans to sell partial ownership of the subsidiary to an equity partner that will co-invest in the ongoing business.The deal comes amid the ongoing consolidation in the consumer fiber business. In September, AT&amp;T’s peer Verizon Communications, Inc. (VZ) announced a $20 billion deal to buy fiber internet provider Frontier Communications Parent, Inc. (FYBR).Canadian telecommunications company BCE, Inc. Rumors of AT&amp;T, Inc.’s (T) interest in Lumen Technologies, Inc.’s (LUMN) consumer fiber operations sparked a sell-off in the latter’s shares in late-afternoon trading on Tuesday.&nbsp;On the other hand,&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/T">AT&amp;T's stock</a> rose 1.30%, with the upside partly due to the optimism in the broader market.A Bloomberg report&nbsp;<a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2025-03-25/at-t-said-in-talks-to-buy-lumen-s-consumer-fiber-unit">said</a> Tuesday afternoon that AT&amp;T has been in exclusive discussions to acquire Lumen’s consumer fiber operations in a deal valued at more than $5.5 billion.&nbsp;The report also noted that Lumnen CFO Chris Stansbury said at a conference earlier this month that building fiber-to-home and wireless gave large providers lower churn and more pricing strength and that the company’s consumer fiber business has generated great interest.The executive said any transaction will likely help the company lighten its debt load.The consumer optics space has been going through consolidation. In September, AT&amp;T’s peer Verizon Communications, Inc. (VZ) announced a $20 billion deal to buy fiber internet provider Frontier Communications Parent, Inc.
