The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday rejected Zillow Group’s request to dismiss a class-action lawsuit accusing the company of misleading investors about its home-buying business, allowing a 2021 case to proceed in federal court in Washington state. The case concerns the legal defenses available to public companies accused of making false statements to investors. Plaintiffs allege Zillow executives made overly optimistic statements about Zillow Offers in the months before the company shut down the division. Zillow closed Zillow Offers in November 2021 after acknowledging it could not reliably forecast future home prices. The company recorded a $300 million inventory write-down and announced plans to cut its workforce by 25%. Its shares fell sharply following the announcement. The lawsuit argues that statements by then-CEO and other executives misrepresented the outlook for the business and helped prevent the stock from declining. $Z $ZG
