The decline was primarily due to an 8% decrease in the average sales price of homes delivered and a 5% decrease in the number of home deliveries.&nbsp;<h2 class="st-heading-2">Q1 2026 Snapshot</h2>Lennar delivered 16,863 new homes in&nbsp;Q1 2026, compared to 17,834 homes&nbsp;in the same period of the previous year. The average sales price of homes delivered was $374,000 in the quarter, compared to $408,000 from the year-ago period.&nbsp;The decrease in average sales price of homes delivered was primarily due to continued weakness in the market, and an increased use of sales incentives offered to homebuyers.&nbsp;During Q1 2026, gross margins also decreased, primarily due to lower revenue per square foot and higher land costs year-over-year, which were partially offset by a decrease in construction costs, reflecting the company's continued focus on cost-saving initiatives.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Outlook</h2>Lennar expects to deliver approximately 20,000 to 21,000 homes in the second quarter with gross margin improving to 15.5% to 16% and SG&amp;A improving to 8.9% to 9.1%, as volume increases and the spring selling season unfolds.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Housing Shortage&nbsp;Persists</h2>"Our first quarter of fiscal year 2026 was defined by the same persistent headwinds that have challenged the housing market for over three years — high mortgage rates, constrained affordability, cautious consumer sentiment, and geopolitical uncertainty, especially now including the recent conflict in Iran,” said Stuart Miller, Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Lennar."While the broader market remains challenged in the near term, exacerbated by current events, we are continuing to operate with conviction and clarity. (AMZN) on Monday announced a $12 billion investment in Louisiana for new artificial intelligence data center campuses, a project that will create 540 full-time jobs.The data center development will be across Caddo and Bossier Parishes, and will also support 1,710 additional positions, the company <a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.aboutamazon.com/news/company-news/amazon-data-center-louisiana-new-jobs">said</a>. These will include positions such as electricians, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning technicians, project engineers, network specialists, operations managers, security specialists, among others.Earlier this month, the tech giant announced a significant boost to its capital expenditure for 2026, up to $200 billion from about $130 billion reported in 2025.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Data Center Details</h2>“Amazon's $12 billion investment in northwest Louisiana will build next-generation data center campuses to support AI and cloud computing, ensuring opportunities for local communities," said David Zapolsky, Amazon's Chief Global Affairs and Legal Officer."We're creating hundreds of high-paying jobs and making substantial investments in local infrastructure to serve customers," Zapolsky added.Amazon said that it plans to invest up to $400 million in local water infrastructure for the campuses, adding that it will use “only verified surplus water” which will not strain local supplies. The e-commerce giant also said it is working with partners to develop water-positive programs that will return more water than it has used to the local watershed by 2030.Amazon also said it will fully pay for all its new energy infrastructure and grid needs at the Louisiana data center campus, working in partnership with Southwestern Electric Power Company. Citroen and JAC recorded the largest increases in new registrations in the country in January.<h2 class="st-heading-2">European Struggles</h2>Tesla’s struggles extended into January, after European registrations fell 20% year over year in December, even as the broader battery electric vehicle (BEV) market jumped 50%. In 2025, Tesla’s European registrations declined about 27% to 238,656 units.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Tesla’s Robotics Drive</h2><a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/TSLA">Tesla's shares</a> have been under the spotlight ever since the company unveiled a $20 billion investment plan focused on autonomous driving and robotics, alongside stronger-than-expected fourth-quarter results. CEO Elon Musk also said Tesla will begin phasing out production of its premium Model S and Model X vehicles next quarter.&nbsp;Capital expenditures are set to surge from $8.5 billion in 2026 as Tesla scales output of the Cybercab, Tesla Semi, and Optimus robot, with the Fremont factory shifting toward robot production. The company expects to reveal the next-generation Optimus in the first quarter and start manufacturing by year-end. (AMZN) on Wednesday announced that it is laying off about 16,000 employees in its latest bid to trim the bureaucratic flab.“We’ve been working to strengthen our organization by reducing layers, increasing ownership, and removing bureaucracy,” said Amazon’s Senior Vice President of People Experience and Technology at Amazon, Beth Galetti.Galetti added that while many teams finalized their organizational changes in October as the company sought to reduce layers and remove bureaucracy, other teams did not complete that work until now.<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/AMZN">Amazon shares</a> were up nearly 0.25% in Wednesday’s pre-market trade. We’re still in the early stages of building every one of our businesses and there’s significant opportunity ahead,” Galetti said.To those impacted by Wednesday’s cuts, the company will offer 90 days to look for a new role internally. However, those who cannot find a new role at Amazon or want to move on will be offered severance pay, outplacement services, applicable health insurance benefits, and more, the company said.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Galetti Dismisses Layoffs As A Pattern</h2>Galetti added that while some may think that massive layoffs every few months are a pattern at Amazon, saying this is not the company’s plan.“But just as we always have, every team will continue to evaluate the ownership, speed, and capacity to invent for customers, and make adjustments as appropriate,” she said.Amazon announced 14,000 layoffs in October, citing the same aim: reducing layers and bureaucracy. This underperformance stood in stark contrast to the broader battery-electric vehicle (BEV) market, where registrations surged 50.3% to 308,955 units. As a result, Tesla’s BEV market share fell to 11.4%, nearly halving from 21.5% a year earlier.The weakness was even more pronounced over the full year. From January through December, Tesla’s European registrations dropped around 27% to 238,656 units.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Chinese Competitors Hurt Market Share</h2>Meanwhile, competition from China continued to gain ground. BYD reported 27,678 registrations in December, marking a remarkable 230% increase from the previous year. For full-year 2025, BYD’s European registrations jumped to 187,657, up from just 50,912 in 2024.SAIC also reported solid growth. New registrations in December rose more than 15% year over year to 31,806 units, while full-year registrations climbed 25% to 305,717.In the European Union (EU) alone, Tesla’s new registrations declined nearly 32% in December and 38% in 2025. Overall, new car registrations in the EU edged up by 1.8% in 2025, but volumes remain well below pre-pandemic levels.
