Shares of Akari Therapeutics (AKTX) surged nearly 50% on Thursday after CEO Abizer Gaslightwala highlighted the potential of the company’s proprietary antibody drug conjugate platform to treat cancer, ahead of a key oncology conference.

An antibody-drug conjugate (ADC) is a cancer treatment that combines a targeted therapy with a chemotherapy drug.

Gaslightwala said the preclinical data showed encouraging results when the ADC platform was used alongside a KRAS inhibitor in pancreatic cancer models with KRAS mutations. KRAS is a gene that helps control how cells grow and divide. When the gene mutates, it can cause uncontrolled cell growth that can lead to cancer.

“We believe AKTX-101 and our novel spliceosome-modulating payload approach have the potential to redefine how difficult-to-treat KRAS-driven cancers are targeted, particularly in patient populations where current therapeutic options remain limited,” Gaslightwala said.

AKTX To Present At ASCO 2026

The firm is set to present its preclinical data at the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Annual Meeting, taking place between May 29 and June 2, 2026.

Last week, Akari said the data showed promising results for its lead cancer drug candidate, AKTX-101. The company noted that AKTX-101 worked well when combined with Adagrasib, resulting in greater cancer cell killing than existing therapies.

AKTX-101 uses a proprietary technology designed to block cancer growth in a different way than traditional antibody drug conjugates. Akari plans to begin a Phase 1 human clinical trial by mid-2027. To support the trial, Akari Therapeutics announced a private financing deal last week to raise about $5.5 million.

The stock has rallied sharply since last week’s announcements, putting it on track for its best month in nearly 11 years.
