Amazon (AMZN) and Google (GOOG)-backed Anthropic reportedly stated on Friday that it’s planning to triple its international workforce as it looks to expand its artificial intelligence (AI) footprint.
“What is amazing is we haven’t, up until recently, had significant human presence in Europe, in Japan, in our international markets, and yet we already have a very, very significant business over there,” Anthropic’s Chief Commercial Officer Paul Smith told CNBC. The report noted that nearly 80% of usage of Anthropic’s Claude AI models now comes from outside the U.S.
On Stocktwits, retail sentiment around Anthropic, which is not a publicly traded company, trended in ‘bearish’ territory amid ‘high’ levels of chatter.
The company said it is not only tripling its global workforce but also planning to expand its applied AI team fivefold by 2025. Chris Ciauri, who recently joined as Managing Director of International, is leading the global expansion. The report stated that Anthropic is actively recruiting country leads for India, Australia, New Zealand, Korea, and Singapore, while expanding its presence in the U.K., northern and southern Europe, Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.
According to Smith, there has been rapid adoption in sectors such as life sciences and sovereign wealth management. At Danish pharma giant Novo Nordisk, Claude condensed a typical three-month drug development analysis into just a few days. Smith added that G20 governments are approaching Anthropic for citizen-level AI projects, while large companies in Europe and Asia are exploring industry-specific use cases.
As part of its international expansion, Anthropic is opening its first Asia office in Tokyo and increasing its presence in Europe, with over 100 new roles in Dublin and London, as well as a research hub in Zurich. The company currently employs around 1,500 staff, according to Forbes.
