Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal on Wednesday said that New Delhi and Washington are engaged in ongoing talks to address concerns over tariffs, stressing that the issue should not be seen as a confrontation.

Speaking at the BJP office in Mumbai, Goyal described the matter as "a situation, not a battle," and underlined that both sides have been in discussions for months. He noted that a US delegation held day-long consultations in Delhi on Tuesday as part of the effort to bridge differences.

"India and the US are friendly nations, so are our leaders. All issues will be resolved in the times ahead," the minister said.

Goyal also pointed to the cordial ties between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump, noting that the American leader had extended birthday wishes to Modi. He said such personal gestures underscored the strength of the bilateral relationship.

India and the US have been locked in a series of tariff disputes in recent years, ranging from duties on steel and aluminium to market access for agricultural products and digital services. Officials on both sides, however, have signalled their intent to work towards a negotiated settlement.
