Shares of quantum computing firm Infleqtion (INFQ) surged about 13% on Monday after the company secured inclusion in the Russell indexes and announced an expansion of its U.K. operations. The stock also benefited from continued investor enthusiasm surrounding the quantum computing sector.
The series of announcements positions the newly publicly traded company at the forefront of a heavily contested international race for quantum supremacy, backed by significant capital infusion from the Trump administration.
The Trump administration and the U.S. Department of Commerce had announced a $2-billion funding initiative under the CHIPS and Science Act to support domestic quantum computing and manufacturing. As part of this package, Infleqtion signed a Letter of Intent to receive $100 million in federal incentives to accelerate U.S. leadership in quantum technologies.
FTSE Russell announced that Infleqtion has been added to the broad-market Russell 3000 Index as part of its index reconstitution.
Membership in the Russell 3000, which remains in place for one year, ensures automatic inclusion into either the large-cap Russell 1000 or small-cap Russell 2000 indexes. The transition triggers automatic buying from index funds and institutional asset managers that track the Russell benchmarks, significantly enhancing the stock's liquidity and capital market visibility.
Infleqtion is drastically expanding its European operations by launching a new Quantum Innovation Center and manufacturing hub at the Oxford Technology Park in the UK.
The expansion will triple the size of Infleqtion's research, production, and systems integration capabilities in the UK, where it has operated since 2014. The facility will see the recruitment of specialized physicists, software developers, and systems engineers to transition the firm's sovereign quantum pipeline from laboratory R&D to commercial-scale manufacturing.
Retail sentiment on Stocktwits was “extremely bullish” with “extremely high” message volumes.
INFQ stock has soared about 59% since IPO.
