Nestlé India to pass on GST rate cut benefits to consumers from today

FMCG major Nestlé India Ltd on Monday (September 22) said it will roll out the benefits of the recent Goods and Services Tax (GST) rate reduction announced by the government of India directly to consumers, starting September 22, 2025.

Manish Tiwary, Chairman and Managing Director of Nestlé India, said, "The GST rate reduction is a positive step for consumers in India, as it will stimulate consumption and contribute to the overall growth of the economy. Nestlé has been an integral part of India for over 113 years, and consumers are at the heart of our business. We remain committed to the single purpose of serving consumers in all possible ways."

The company said it has communicated the GST rate change benefits through announcements in national and regional newspapers. It has also informed wholesalers, distributors, and retailers to ensure transparency in passing on the reduced rates.

From kitchen staples to electronics, from medicines and equipment to automobiles, goods and services became cheaper from Monday as the reduced GST rates on several items came into effect from September 22, the first day of the Navaratri.

The tax regime now assumes a two-tier structure, with the majority of goods and services attracting tax of 5% and 18%, and ultra luxury items being levied a 40% tax. Tobacco and related products will continue to be in the 28 per cent plus cess category.

Till now, the GST was levied in four slabs of 5, 12, 18 and 28%. Besides, a compensation cess is levied on luxury items and demerit or sin goods.
