NASA said on Monday that audiences will be able to see its rocket launches and other missions live on Netflix.
The space agency said that its streaming service, NASA+, will be available to a global audience of more than 700 million people on Netflix. Apart from launches, viewers will be able to see astronaut spacewalks, mission coverage, and live views of Earth from the International Space Station.
“The National Aeronautics and Space Act of 1958 calls on us to share our story of space exploration with the broadest possible audience,” Rebecca Sirmons, general manager of NASA+, said.
The financial details of the deal were not disclosed. NASA+ will remain available for free, without advertisements, through the NASA app and on the agency’s website.
The space agency’s Cape Canaveral Space Force Station has already witnessed dozens of launches this year, including those by Elon Musk’s SpaceX. The agency is also planning several launches as part of its Artemis program, which aims to send humans back to the moon by 2027.
However, several of NASA’s space missions and other research programs have been threatened by the proposed cuts in Trump’s ‘big beautiful bill.’
Netflix, which is trading at all-time highs, entered the live broadcast television market last month by partnering with TF1, the leading TV broadcaster in France. The partnership will enable subscribers in France to access live and on-demand content directly on Netflix.
Retail sentiment on Stocktwits about Netflix was in the ‘bullish’ (59/100) territory, while retail chatter was ‘high.’
Netflix stock has gained nearly 50% this year.
