The brokerage downgraded the stock after noting a challenging 2026 setup for the shares, as it does not believe the separation will unlock additional shareholder value. The move brings more uncertainty amid an uncertain macro backdrop, the brokerage noted.Corteva stated that its crop protection division is expected to generate approximately $7.8 billion in net sales in 2025, accounting for around 44% of the company's total net sales. The new price target implies a 23.5% upside compared to the stock’s previous closing price on Thursday. The SPDR Energy Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLE), which tracks energy firms in the S&amp;P 500, has declined 3.9% this week amid a weakness in oil prices.The ETF, which has approximately $26.52 billion in assets under management, is on track to record its worst weekly decline since late May. The declines follow a more than 7% drop in both Brent crude and West Texas Intermediate crude prices this week, due to concerns about oversupply. The producer group has already brought back 2.5 million barrels per day (bpd) worth of nameplate capacity this year, which has pushed oil prices lower.“If OPEC+ does go ahead and announce a 500,000 bpd increase this weekend, it’s likely a big enough increase to send crude oil lower again, initially to support at $58.00, before a test of this year’s lows $55.00 area,” IG analyst Tony Sycamore said. Concerns over the U.S. government shutdown curtailing economic activity and the resumption of Iraq’s Kurdish oil exports are also weighing on the crude price, he added.Among individual stocks, Occidental Petroleum has fallen 6.8% this week, following its agreement to sell its Oxychem unit to Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway for $9.7 billion. However, analysts were not enthusiastic about the mega deal due to its timing.Roth MKM analysts stated that while the sale would help the oil and gas producer reduce its debt, it could negatively impact free cash flow growth in the coming years, as the unit was expected to contribute significantly to expansion.However, HSBC analysts upgraded the stock to 'buy' from 'hold' after noting that the share pullback from disappointment in the OxyChem sale price "presents a great buying opportunity."Separately, oil prices edged higher on Friday following a fire at a Chevron refinery in Los Angeles County. This Energy ETF Is Heading Toward Its Worst Week In Four Months — Can A Late Rebound Save The Day?

Among other altcoins, BNB was up 4.7% and Solana gained 2.5%.Following a damp September, Bitcoin and other digital currencies are experiencing a strong upward move as investor appetite has grown amid a delay in the release of U.S. jobs data. The Nasdaq and S&amp;P 500 futures were up despite the government shutdown entering its third day, with analysts noting that investors were still giving lawmakers time to resolve their differences.According to the CME Group’s FedWatch tool, futures traders have assigned a 97.8% probability for a 25-basis-point rate cut at the next Federal Open Market Committee meeting, scheduled for later this month.“The U.S. government shutdown is making markets thirsty for risk. So far this week, Bitcoin ETFs have seen net inflows of $2.25 billion, following $902 million in outflows the previous week. Bitcoin Hovers Near $120K — Analyst Says Not ‘Far Away’ From New All-Time Highs

A large fire broke out at Chevron’s (CVX) El Segundo refinery in Los Angeles County late on Thursday following an explosion.According to a CBS News <a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.cbsnews.com/losangeles/news/large-fire-erupts-at-los-angeles-county-refinery/">report</a>, police officers and firefighters rushed to the refinery after receiving multiple reports of an explosion at the facility, which is the second-largest refinery in California in terms of capacity.The report added, citing LA County Supervisor Holly Mitchell, that crews contained the fire to one area of the refinery. She also stated that residents did not have to evacuate, but advised them to stay inside and for visitors to stay away from El Segundo for the time being.Separately, El Segundo Mayor Chris Pimentel reportedly said authorities have not received any reports of injuries. "We were able to respond with Chevron fire immediately, our station is about a .25 mile away from the gates of Chevron," Pimentel said. AES stock (AES) fell over 7% on Thursday, giving back gains from the previous session, as concerns lingered over its rumored buyout by BlackRock’s Global Infrastructure Partners.The stock logged its worst day since June during the regular trading session, after jumping nearly 17% on Wednesday. About 29.42 million shares changed hands, more than double the stock’s 200-day average trading volume. BlackRock had acquired GIP for $12.5 billion the previous year, as it sought to expand its holdings in infrastructure and alternative assets.Arlington, Virginia-based AES owns power infrastructure on four continents and produces more than 36,000 megawatts.AES has a net debt of $29 billion, and its market valuation stood at approximately $9 billion as of Tuesday’s close, before the release of the FT report. The deal talks come amid soaring demand for electricity in the U.S., driven by energy-intensive artificial intelligence data centers. The company has already inked power supply deals with the likes of Meta, Microsoft, and Alphabet’s Google.However, analysts wondered how much the shareholders could gain from the potential deal. "When incorporating a spread for regulatory approval, [it's] difficult to see upside from here," Jefferies analyst Julien Dumoulin-Smith said in a note after Wednesday’s jump. At $15/share price, the enterprise value of the deal would be $38.4 billion, above the FT-reported bid level, the brokerage said.Separately, Barclays valued the deal at $18 per share, noting some differences in the calculation of its consolidated debt due to differing views on its cash balance from an accounting perspective. It is key to the planemaker’s ambitions to wrest market share from European rival Airbus in the lucrative long-haul market, as well as to generate free cash flow. The report stated that Boeing executives will likely discuss the extent and cost of the latest delay in the launch of the widebody aircraft when Boeing reports earnings on Oct. 29.The aerospace giant has reportedly incurred $11 billion in cost overruns for the 777X, which has encountered a string of setbacks and faced scrutiny from the Federal Aviation Administration in the aftermath of two fatal 737 Max crashes in 2019 and 2020.The report further stated that since the program is in a reach-forward-loss position, Boeing will not recover its development costs across the first 500 airplanes it builds and sells. Boeing Stock In Focus After 777x Launch Pushed To 2027, Adding Billions In Cost Overrun

Rocket Lab USA (RKLB) stock gained over 1% in premarket trading on Tuesday after the launch services provider signed its second multi-launch contract with a Japanese satellite data and analytics firm.The contract with Synspective, a synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellite data provider, sanctions an additional 10 dedicated launches of its Electron vehicles, bringing the total number of launches for the Japanese firm to 21 and making it the largest single customer for the Electron program.Rocket Lab has been Synspective’s sole launch provider to date, successfully deploying six StriX satellites across six dedicated launches from Rocket Lab Launch Complex 1 in New Zealand. The subsequent 21 Synspective launches will take place from the same launch site, the company said.“Rocket Lab’s precision and track record have consistently enabled us to stay on schedule and achieve our mission objectives.
