Anthropic on Tuesday announced that it has launched ‘Project Glasswing,’ a new cybersecurity initiative alongside major technology companies including Nvidia Corp. (NVDA), Amazon Web Services, Apple Inc. (AAPL), Google (GOOG, GOOGL), and Microsoft Corp. (MSFT), among others.
The initiative will leverage Anthropic’s unreleased frontier AI model, Claude Mythos Preview, which the company says will help with software vulnerability detection "in an effort to secure the world's most critical software."
Project Glasswing will allow some of the top tech organizations to use its AI model for defensive cybersecurity work, Anthropic said.
Broadcom Inc. (AVGO), Cisco Systems (CSCO), CrowdStrike Holdings (CRWD), JPMorgan Chase (JPM), Palo Alto Networks (PANW), and The Linux Foundation have also been listed as partners.
As part of Project Glasswing, partners will deploy Anthropic’s Mythos Preview within their defensive security operations, while Anthropic will share insights broadly to benefit the wider industry. Access has also been extended to more than 40 additional organizations responsible for critical software infrastructure, enabling them to scan and secure both proprietary and open-source systems, the company said.
Anthropic is further committing up to $100 million in usage credits to support these efforts, alongside $4 million in direct funding for open-source security organizations.
“Mythos Preview has already found thousands of high-severity vulnerabilities, including some in every major operating system and web browser,” the company said. “Given the rate of AI progress, it will not be long before such capabilities proliferate, potentially beyond actors who are committed to deploying them safely. Project Glasswing is an urgent attempt to put these capabilities to work for defensive purposes.”
