OpenAI (OPENAI) CEO Sam Altman reportedly said on Friday he sees “positive progress” in discussions with Microsoft (MSFT) and expects “super strong” enterprise adoption of GPT-5. His comments come after the launch of the new model just a day ago.

Microsoft’s stock edged 0.35% higher after the opening bell, but retail sentiment on Stocktwits dipped within ‘neutral’ territory over the past day. In contrast, retail sentiment around OpenAI was in the ‘extremely bullish’ zone.

“It’s much better for businesses and enterprises. The coding, in particular, is something that people have been really waiting for. So we’re seeing super strong adoption of this,” Altman told CNBC, stating that there was “positive progress” in discussion around OpenAI’s partnership with Microsoft.

He also said that the company has no plans to go public anytime soon. “As long as we’re on this very steep curve of the models getting better and better, I think the rational thing to do is to just be willing to run at a loss, for quite a while,” Altman stated.

“If we do go public, there will be tremendous upside left from the company,” Altman said, answering a question on how he feels about platforms like Robinhood offering tokenized OpenAI stock. “I get why people would love for us to be public sooner. We’re in a crazy position and it would be very hard for us to be public given all the realities of that.”

His comments come after rival xAI CEO and former co-founder of OpenAI, Elon Musk, hit out against Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella on Wednesday in a post on X. “OpenAI will eat Microsoft alive,” he wrote.

“I know I don’t think about him that much,” Altman said when asked about the exchange of words. “I don’t even know what that means.”

OpenAI launched the GPT-5 model on Thursday. The model is a “major upgrade” over GPT-4 and a “significant step” in the company’s path to artificial general intelligence (AGI), Altman said during the livestream.

OpenAI announced two new model variants–a lightweight GPT-5-mini and an even faster, cheaper GPT-5-nano, which is only available in the API.
